I signed up for the DC GoRuck Challenge on 26 October. Hopefully I'll be available for the IH/GoRuck next year as well.

oh & i was able to sneak in a few push-ups today &  the creaking isn't as bad as before. really think it just came from being so sedentary for so long.

So after a few days with the kettlebells, I decided I should just do cardio today. Ease into those bells, you know?  Meanwhile, I've been thinking to myself, "I'm really not that sore; what's all the fuss about?" I left the house to go for a run – returned about ten minutes later. Holy shit. I was wrong. Dead wrong. I think I need to go take a nap...

Great article, Doug. Thanks for sharing. I wholeheartedly agree that proper rest and diet are just as, if not more, important than an extensive exercise regimen. I am a firm believer in a four-day-a-week schedule, after trying both the four day and six day methods for years. Rest is essential to let your muscles recover. In my case, I've been extremely limited in the amount of physical activity I was capable of, over the last 18 months; and now that I am doing better, physically, I am a bit over-zealous.

A gentle reminder to take it easy is appreciated; whether that was your intention or not, ha.

my way of getting in shape again is going to the gym 2-3times max. a week and when not going to the gym, it´s cardio time…so looks like that (just an example!):

                        monday, wednesday, friday = gym

                        • full body workout 60-75min.!

                        tuesday, thursday = cardio

                        • 30min. running or riding the bike

                        saturday, sunday = day off!

each morning right after waking up (except when doing cardio or going to the gym) and each evening right before going to bed, i do some sort of metabolic workout (2-3min. max.)...saturday and sunday as well!

if you want, i can also share my way of workout with you guys...nothing special though tbh.!

That article was posted on Skogg's FB page, I just got around to reading it a couple days ago and meant to post it up here earlier

It's true though. If I push myself too hard, I wind up taking more time off than I would have if I had a more reasonable workout schedule. You wind up getting to the point of negative returns.

Balance is key, and it takes a long time to figure out what your own personal balance is

The place I was/do feel it most is in my core/thighs, freaking hilarious and goes to show the 'full body workout'. Know your pain brutha! I'm about 2-3 months in and it's still kicking my ass serious 🙂

Unfortunately need to really scale back on my training. My ankle is not healing fast enough. Every night after a workout my ankle balloons to epic proportions. Any recommendations. I know a sprain can last a long time but this is ridiculous to me. So for now it's just strictly diet. Very frustrating!

maybe you should just slow down on taking to much weight/pressure on it when doing "burpees" for example and try to strenghten it with easier (physio) exercises and some cardio (bike riding) at first!?

I rolled my ankle really badly once in college and it was a solid three months before I was able to run again.  Extraordinarily frustrating, but it won't help you any to push it before it's healed.

I realize that but, there is much more to my training than the challenge. I have set a weight goal for myself that I want to accomplish and diet alone isn't going to cut it. So this set back is a bit of a let down.
