          Hello all,
Finally decided I can't resist the Vulcan no longer, lol. But have a few questions, I'm pretty muscular (especially in the legs, football guy) but I'm fairly certain Sz 35 would be ideal…..BTW thanks MikeC for the measurements posted, definitely helped in figuring that out.

My Question: I definitely prefer a wider leg opening than a more tapered one. Is it possible to wedge something in the leg opening as I perform an initial hot soak to retain the original leg opening measurements (~9.3") as they dry, because I'm afraid the 8.9" MikeC had reported (after his hot soaks) would not be satisfactory for me. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks guys. Have a good one.

You could do that and it might work… but are you prepared to wedge something in there every time you wash?  They're eventually going to shrink, it doesn't really matter what you wedge in there.

Ya very true, I guess my thinking is, when washing is needed, to not necessarily wedge them while I wash, but to to do it while I drip dry (assuming the jeans are more pliable while wet), since I never see myself putting them in the dryer.
Would a cold soaks/wash be more rational?
              thanks scroogen

You can cold soak/wash hang dry whatever… I think this will just delay the inevitable.  It's raw denim.  There is going to be some degree of shrinkage, maybe not as much as MikeC experienced, maybe more.  My point is in the long term they will shrink no matter what you do.  You will never retain that 9.3'' hem.

Consider busting out a measuring tape and make a circle 8.9'' wide.  Wrap that shit around your leg and see how you feel.

then repeat with 9.3 inches and realize whatever you're thinking of doing is not worth the effort

Bob, just to echo what everyone else is saying, if I were you, I would probably consider a cut that works better for your frame. The 634s, and 634-XHS are fuller through the thigh, and opening; and they are both offered in a 35. You can't go wrong with either pair. If you have your heart set on unsanforized denim, I believe TinMan may still have a pair of 21/23oz., unsanforized 634s (now extinct) in a waist 35 in the For Sale Thread. Brand new, unwashed, and unsoaked. PM him.

Appreciate all the help/suggestions, as far as the hem, ya I can see how trivial the difference can be. Sean, I was actually ponderin those for quite some time, but I think my mind is set on these Vulcans (either way I can't really go wrong) besides it might be time for me to get a more "modern fit" pair of jeans anyways, was just complaining how big/baggy my Regular Ralfs were.

MikeC- if you catch this, what's your height? Trying to figure out a correct inseam. I'm 5'9" and usually like to switch between a small cuff and uncuffed, dependent upon the footwear. I was thinking a pre-soak inseam of 33.5".

I am really jonesing for a pair of the Vulcans- I think these will be my summer denim (probably purchase in May), and I'll have to grab a pair of the 25 oz. next October for the winter…  Love the cut and the details on these.  I always do house projects over the summers- this summer I'm gutting out and rebuilding a bathroom- and I think the Vulcans might just be perfect for that!
