Same here, It was where I caught my first Bonefish, and I went back probably half a dozen times….My first day there, I fished the whole day and caught nothing, but is was still (then) my best days fishing ever......

One of my new "outdorsey" Lawtonian buddies informed me that he is a fly fishing instructor and loves tying his own flys. He has even created some pretty unique ones. I told him its something I've always wanted to get into, so he brought some things by and is going to give Lori and me some lessons. Thought G-San might enjoy this. I may have to get him some IH pants to replace the Duluths he's always wearing.

This one, made from deer hair, he invented and named: "lame perch" because it floats on its side like a lame perch.

This one he referred to as Mr. Deadly:

Mind you, this is the same guy that only hunts with an English long bow, and hasn't purchased "store bought" meat in over 5 years. He's also made his own buckskin clothes. He's going to teach me how to tan hide so I can get Nietenhosen some deer leather this season to make me a fat boy western shirt.

Anybody here do any Tenkara? It's a simplified Japanese fly fishing setup with no real. I'm thinking about getting a starter set and giving it a whirl out on the farm ponds and little creeks around Southwestern Oklahoma.

had a great nights fishing last night. just as the sun had set, i got a serious bite. reel started screaming like crazy and i immediately knew what i had hooked; a sea trout! the fish was probably 60-70 metres out when it started swimming towards the big rocks i was standing on, but 50 metres to the right of me. i was running out of line so the rock hopping commenced. after approx 10 min i landed a beautiful silver torpedo weighing 6 lbs. i was using light gear so the adrenaline was out the roof!

Great story Peter, I agree 100% the light weight gear is absolutely the most fun! congrats on landing it!

This is how I spent this last week.  My brother in-law and father in-law enter the local salmon derby each year on Lake Huron, it's usually freezing and raining and the fishing is pretty slow, but if you stick with it there are some pretty huge fish in there.  Took some pics, figured I'd throw a few up.  Only one fish worth taking a shot of, 14.75 salmon, put up a big fight and made a mess of all of the lines in the water, but it was fun anyway! My father in-law was the lucky one!

First day out, spent 8hrs in the fog, could only see roughly 10ft in any direction.  Long, slow, very disorienting.
                                            🙂

Day 2, on the way out, sun just coming up.

Day 3 the nicest day of the week,

                                            Wind turbines on the shore

                                            Love the water colour

                                            Here's the fish.

We never usually get many fish in the boat, but it doesn't seem to deter us in the slightest!! Always end up having a great time  🙂
