It's a planer for woodworking. It's used to create boards that are of an even thickness throughout their length and flat on both surfaces as per Wikipedia. I'm attempting to remodel a 1930s home in Austin and so far I've reclaimed a good amount of wood off of the walls and floor to be re-used. Before I can re-use it, I'll be running it through my new toy to resurface all of the wood. It's a learning process but the finished product should be well worth it!

I was explicitely forbidden to use any tools in school due to being the clumsiest person alive (and the fact that I haven't strangled myself with a microwave's cord by accident is quite a miracle)…

there is no such thing as "wood class" in germany buddy…at least not at the schools i know and went to!
also i can´t believe i am/was the only one that didn´t recognized it at first sight!

I figured you didn't have wood class in Germany. I grew up in the country. We have wood and metal classes.

Down here we take both woodwork and sewing/cooking classes (alternating each term). The things you learn…

Yes, I read that it's referred to as a thicknesser in Australia and the UK.  We just call it a planer in the states.

Just picked up a Brooks Pickwick roll top backpack, made from thick waxed canvas, cast alloy and leather. With the absence of anything from IH this will do the job nicely
