Seul, he's "distressed!"

Been meaning to post these for a while, but didn't dump the pics into my Photobucket account until today. These are my newest acquisition- custom built by Dave Wheeler, one of the finest bootmakers in business today.

Hand hammered steel shank arch support in the instep attached with two rows of wood pegs on each side
Varigated stitching done on vintage single needle machine, one row at a time
Lovely shrunken shoulder bullhide
Fully lined with a reinforced heel slide
Really, really happy with them…

About 14 months, which was shorter than the initial estimate of 16 months. We first discussed the boots back in October '11, then did measurements and confirmed the order specs this October. He called to let me know they were done and ready to be picked up a week ago.
He's got a pretty hefty backlog of orders, but it could be worse…

Chris, you have a fabulous collection.
I just got this pair of M.L. Leddy's this weekend.

Chris. I love those boots. They are absolutely beautiful. BK those are damn nice boots, too.

I'm in Houston next month, and I'm going to try to find a pair of full quill ostrich boots, ideally in a mid to dark tan/brown. Budget isn't huge, and I'm fairly limited in where I can get to (West of the city), any suggestions? Don't mind if its a chain store as this'll be my first pair of cowboy boots (only taken 25yrs to decide!), and lots of choice would probably help
-
Best bet is probably going to be Cavender's. They have multiple locations across the city, so you probably won't have to go far to find one. Selection is good and the staff is usually pretty solid, too. February is a good time to boot shop; the Rodeo starts up on the 25th, so all the stores get fully stocked. It's like cowboy Christmas. Brown full quill ostrich should be ready to find, too- very popular combo.
Where you going to be, Katy?
And I'll try to get some fit pics up in the next couple of days, Zach.

Oh, and I almost forgot- great pair you picked up, BK. Love the toe on them. M.L. Leddy makes really excellent boots; I've always thought their styling and color usage is really classic.

Thanks Chris!
The Larry Mahan's look ok and not too pricey, pity the Lucchese aren't in the sale. I prefer the look of the regular toe more than the square toe, although there seems to be less choice in that style.I'll be based around the George Bush park area, so looks like there's a couple of Cavender's that I could get to fairly easily.

thanks JSJ and Chris. and Chris, one day I'd like to get a custom made pair and you'll be the guy I reach out to for advice…
-
Whenever you're ready, I'm here.

I'm in San Antonio for the World Science Fiction Convention and just got these Lucchese Black Cherry dress boots at Paris Hatters. Awesome service, really comfy out of the box. Better pictures later…
