      @Graeme:

      Anyone seen the Robert Loomes Robin watch?

      I'm on their mailing list, which is sadly about as near as I'll ever get to one! They sent this link recently as well:

        I took a look at a Fifty Fathoms in Selfridges yesterday. It's a lovely looking piece, and you can see why someone might want to spend the extra over something like an Omega.

        I also saw the Jaeger-LeCoultre Tribute to Deep Sea Chronograph… 😘

        It's a couple of grand cheaper than the Fifty Fathoms, but lacks the all-important waterproofing for someone like Giles.

          I dropped my Seiko and its running really fast. Is it worth a DIY poke around inside or is this a good way to need a new watch?

            I'm presuming not your Discus Burger, for which the answer would obviously be yes.  For a more ordinary watch, I'd say probably.  Could just be the rate adjustment pointer thingy (and yes, that is the technical term:) ) got knocked out of position and a repair guy could readjust it for a few pounds.  At the very least, someone competent could tell you how expensive the repair would be.

                    I've got an Omega Seamaster and like it quite a lot. Alternate that with a Tag Monaco and a Cartier Tank. I think if the Tank was a manual wind instead of quartz it would be my favourite.

                                      After a long spell flipping various watches, eventually settled on this Supermarine (sorry for crap iPhone pic) and a silver dial ALT1-C.  They're a superb second-hand buy IMO, seriously well put together.

                                          The Supermarine looks really cool in black.

                                          The one I want is their pocket watch, which unfortunately isn't in production. They made a couple, and one went to Prince Philip. Another is on display in their showroom in Mayfair.

                                            I found one up the road (www.watchworks.co.uk), it is being fixed (hairspring problem).
