Theres really only two things that I don't like about the Planet Ocean

          • the big size doesn't come with a black bezel
          • the band is a little thin for my likings

Other than that it felt great on my wrist
Anyone have an Omega?  I know they have a great reputation- but any personal stories?

I think you should go for the watch you want, not a compromise. If you need to save up for a while more it's worth it, because if you now make a compromise you'll probably end up getting the watch you'd preferred later on anyway. That's just how it works, usually.

Out of those three I like the Omega most. Not so much I'd ever buy it though.. Have you looked into Panerai? For around 3-4 K€ you could get a nice handwindable classic, like the PAM112? Or if you want to go huge, how about the Breitling Super Avenger?

E: Ooops, Panerais tend to be 4,5 K€ for the base models nowadays… A bit rich for my liking..

E2: You could also look into Bell & Ross. I've always had a soft spot for their instrument line, if I ever have the excess cash I might go for one just for the hell of it. They probably have a very low resell value and since they use very basic ETAs people tend to think they're overpriced but I still like them..

How about this Tudor? I know 42mm but i think an extremely good watch for the money. Never had it unfortunately but maybe one day

And i am with jii, save up for the "right" and yes panerai basemodels are nice, exchanging straps makes lots of fun 🙂

Oh, and regarding how the options you posted keep time: both the Omega and the Breitling are COSC certified so I guess they're accurate enough. My Breitling Steelfish has been within COSC tolerances easily during it's (almost full) first year. I don't fuss about accuracy but would of course be pissed off if it would be outside of the tolerances promised.

I think Bell & Ross look slick, but everything I've seen looks like a black square lol.  Looking for a circular watch first

I've got a Breitling, and it's never been particularly accurate. It often loses two or three minutes over a couple of weeks, and that's outside of the COSC certification that it allegedly has.

I don't know if it's just me, or if it's the watch. But it's been back to them on several occasions, and it works better for a year or so and then starts misbehaving. 😞

It's a shame because I really like that particular model. It's the now discontinued titanium Avenger Sea Wolf so a lot more plain than virtually anything else that they produce. This one is pretty close to how mine looks, though I've got the plain rubber strap.

On the upside, I can probably sell it on for twice what I paid, so I'd be quids in. 😃

I have the big planet ocean 8500 but with the orange Bezel.  Absolutely love it, great construction and finish.  Just a satisfying watch all around and crazy accurate, by playing with resting positions it has lost less than a minute over the past three months!

Coincidentally the 8500 (newer model) does come with a black Bezel, its just that its ceramic so it looks grey in .pictures..  And a bit in real life.

The upshot, I love it and recommend it.

Careful,  I used a Breitling for just over a year.  The seal failed, it is now worth GBP200

This is what I was looking for… except for not what I wanted to hear-  Thanks Giles.  Were you going diving with it/etc/ how did the seal fail?

Yes I dive.  But I bought the Breitling to dive with.  But apparently you need to get the seals replaced regularly (something I did not know until after the failure).  I am admittedly very hard on my watches, but this is the second Breitling I have managed to fuck up.  I sent all my watches in for service & refurb prior to selling them recently, the watchmaker phoned me up to discuss his recommendations, he first sentence "Well, you really do , erm, wear your watches don't you…"

fair point bubbapest, but I also strongly back the U1, what would be an option is to get one from http://www.watchbuys.com/store/pc/home.asp and return it in case you didn't like it for some reason. As far as I know they have a hassle free return policy

I've been traipsing around London today and seeing if there was anything interesting in the sales. I didn't see that much that appealed. The Omega Spacemaster Z-33 appealed, but I'm unsure about spending that much on a quartz movement.

What did impress me was the ten year service interval on the Omega 8500 calibre. My Breitling has about a five year interval, and a full overhaul is an expensive pass time. If Bubbapest is still looking for recommendations, then I think that a titanium Planet Ocean makes a very compelling argument…

But I'd be very tempted by a Ploprof instead, because it's mad.

My favourite piece was this monster. It's a 1942 Lacher and Co. Luftwaffe navigator's watch. It's enormous, with a 55 mm case, and felt like the horological equivalent of Megatron's Apocalypse Boots.

those Sinn U1s are growing on me.  Plus I've read up on that tegimenting process and Its definitely intriguing.  Would like a watch that can withstand punishment as I'm sure to give it hell.
