I just ordered this in green from Bakers. It's on sale and there's also a 15%off/free 3-day shipping promo code, "clothing."

I had the tan in medium, they run quite large. But I sold it because I thought it was too warm. I've since regretted that choice. So the moment one popped up at a significant price reduction I jumped on it. I've realized that, at least in the city, having a hood and hand warmer pockets on a winter jacket are mandatory for me. Which, unfortunately, narrows my IH options down a lot.

i know and like that one, but if I wanted one, I'd ask Will and would probably get one very similar for a third or less.

However i don't think I could wear this everyday, without gaining an audience looking for me every morning and night to commute past them. cafe's along the way would advertise their most ideal seats, prices would go up during "Neanderthal hour"… you get the picture...

My ideal winter coat should look nice without sticking out so much that I can't wear it to work anymore.

@ubanwoodsman: The Filson is too warm? It only has a wool lining? I need a jacket that will handle temps down to -20C and frankly I can't imagine this one is up to it.

Aero sell a number of leather jackets with a shearling liner, such as the Barnstormer or Highwayman. I'm sure Will could come up with something similar.

Local store has a few different ones from Fjällraven….and I must say if I didn't have all these leather jackets and layers of whatnot jamming the closets, I'd go for one of these as my one and only.  They have different linings and finishes and weights, but they all seem well done and thought-out from my perspective.

I was thinking of posting a similar thread since my job now involves a lot of time in Norway, and as I discovered on my last trip a few weeks ago, my Patagonia snowboard jacket (insulated with 550 fill goose down) wasn't sufficient to keep me warm whilst outside in -13.

I'd noticed a lot of folks were wearing parkas with fur trimmed hoods, and a high percentage of those had a white and red badge…...cue lots of web searching and I found out all about Canada Goose, and the cult that it seems to have become. Whilst I don't want to jump on the bandwagon, their coats (aside from the price), seem to tick all the boxes for me, so I'm going to keep an eye on eBay, although with a number of fakes floating around, that could be a false economy.

Also considered the Alpha N3B, but I'd really prefer real down rather than synthetic, as in my experience it's always felt 'cosier'.

It's horses for courses, and my primary aim is to stay warm, with looking good a secondary bonus.....having said that, I really like some of the Filson jackets, Portage Bay for example, but don't think they'd keep me warm.

Yes, too cold for me in NYC.

Surely warm enough, but I am no Vin Diesel lookalike, I am afraid.

I've got a Reiwen winter parka that's fantastic, but too big for me now. Current wearing an APC parka that I got cheap last year. Only problem is I can't rock a thick sweater underneath without feeling like the Michelin Man.

Thinking Arcteryx Veilance if I could get a good sale, or looking into getting the Reiwen made smaller. It's perfect for Toronto winters and the ladies really like it.

Damn, I'm glad I found this thread. It's made me realize I can just buy the Reiwen again in a smaller size!

I think the Veilance insulated pieces might actually do the trick if layered properly. (I think a heavy winter flannel underneath should suffice.)

I managed to pick up a Galvanic IS from Mr. PORTER for 50% off yesterday which will hopefully compliment my Insulated Field Jacket on the days I am concerned it doesn't provide adequate length to cut out the cold. There's one size Small left.
