According to the advert, these are charcoal.

Astrogoji, I think that the second pair you posted are in Laramie suede. Send them the photo and ask. 🙂

into the first ones.  i'm very weak for the first two you posted. something with light colored shoes makes me very weak, i know it's not practical, but i just like seeing them either stay super clean & spotless or get trashed & lived in.

Yea,  I love tan suede also Monday.  I think I could have pretty much an unlimited amount in the wardrobe if funds permitted.

On another note, I am finally sending in my order after work today, so it will feel good to have finally got real process started!

Astrogoji found most of them, I only posted the grey ones. They were mostly found on Rakuten.

                Not Russell. 😃

I've just got a pair of Red Wings, and finding them quite stiff and heavy. A pair of Russell Birdshooters in a similar build to UrbanWoodsman's (with the zip :D), but with the minimalist Newporter sole could be just what I'm looking for.

For those of you who know me, I am not kind to my clothes.  I wear the crap out of them.  Boots and shoes are no exception, I have had these probably for a good 2 years, wear them an awful lot in all sorts of weathers and have had to have them resoled once.  Laramie suede sure does take a kicking…...

grame, i'm into 3, 4, 5 & 6.  when are you taking the plunge?  damn G$, those are almost as mis-shappen as the foot they cover.  i know folks get up in arms about Russell's web site, but they are catering to folks that take their feet very seriously.  just like Iron Heart was heavy denim for a certain market, Russells really cater to folks creeping around shooting sh!t that can't shoot back.

Seems those people take their feet & comfort very seriously, it's a good thing for the rest of us  ::)

Giles, how do the Russells compare with things like Viberg and Whites in terms of build quality? I know it's comparing apples and oranges, but… 🙂

Madmonday, probably sometime early next year. It depends on finances, and I don't desperately need a new pair of boots right now. I've got a pair of Merrell barefoot style shoes, which I really like, and the Russell Minimalist range looks like taking this to the next level. So no chunky, white soles for me.

Build quality is good, stitch count on the moc toe sometimes not perfect.  But these are a pair of suede chukkas that have lasted 2 years of abuse already.  When they eventually die (if I don't beat them to it), I'll get another pair.

                            Thanks Giles.

I've noticed that some of the edging can be a bit wonky, for example on this pair I posted for Madmonday. But that is an aesthetic, rather than functional, issue.

I'll probably order a pair sometime next year.

I've never been a fan of that "stitched by hand" irregular and uneven look that Russell does, but as you say, that's an aesthetic concern, not a constructional one.  If Giles can't destroy a pair over the course of a couple of years, then they're clearly well built and from quality materials.

To put it into context, I bought a pair of RW suede Chukka's and I comprehensively fecked them within 6 months…..

I like those knok about boots.

My only "beef" with Russell products is that some look like a 5 year old used grocery store scissors to cut the leather.  Im not picky about stitch counts and the like, but the finishing is just shit at times.  I have only seen examples of the extremes however, so they are either fantastic or  poorly done.  None of the issues seems to be a build quality issue though.  I dont know enough to form a solid opinion at this point, but I am at the very least, weary of the product at this point.

I like the green suede paired with the brown leather.  I  really like the green suede itself.  Would like to see it paired with some khaki chinos and/or denim to see if I could pull it off.
