I've got a SS 29er and this thread is a good reminder it and I both need to spend more time on the trails. Unfortunately I've been procrastinating on getting a helmet and it's kept the bike stored all summer.  😞

Spent the weekend converting my tires to tubeless using Stans NoTubes rimstrips and latex goo. It was a complete PITA to get them installed properly but I did and took them out for their first test run yesterday. The difference in feel is immense, less rolling resistance and so much more grip thanks to being able to run at much lower pressure. I did however manage to burp the front tire at the end of the ride, thankfully I was on grass so no damage to either me or the wheel even though it disinflated in a heartbeat 🙂 I'll probably upgrade the tires to Maxxis Ardents in the close future, they have a bit more sturdy sidewalls than the Ignitors so maybe I'll get rid of the burping problem.

I run RR 2.4s tubeless on my Swift. Awesome set up and no way I'd go back to tubes. Takes some fiddling with pressure to avoid the burping I found.

Yeah I was running a pressure around 1,5 bar, gonna try 1,8 today and see if it helps (that's a little less than 30 psi). If that doesn't work I'll switch to the 2,25" Ardents I bought yesterday, they have a slightly more sturdy sidewall than the Ignitors.

I think the Ardents are supposed to work pretty well tubeless (good tyres too).

So I've heard. The conditions at the moment are severely muddy though and from what I've read online that's not their best environment..

I run Mavic X819 tubeless rims with Schwalbe NN UST tires on my Liteville. It´s not the lightest but a really durable set.
I love to ride tubeless, much more comfort and grip.

Blackheart's bicycle can beat up your bicycle.

                      That's awesome.

You get a bike, too, DS?  I'm thinking the Vespa isn't gonna work on those trails…

Doing well, Scott.:)  Glad to see you back around these parts.

I thought about you a few times over the weekend- too bad you couldn't make it out to NYC for the party.  We had a great time in LA last year…

I used to run tubeless Minions on my DH bike, the lower pressure allowed me to find a bit if extra grip even during muddy, claggy British winter conditions, although I'd switch to spikes (Swampthings/WetScreams), when it got really bad 🙂

Also tried out the 'ghetto tubeless' (google it) method on the regular rims on my HT, worked pretty well once I'd got the tyre on and enough air in to create a seal.

Nice Mukluk Blackheart! It sure is a beast of a bike, I've test ridden a few fatbikes myself - even though I'm not a die hard fan I can't deny they're loads of fun… The Surly Krampus might change my view when they start popping up.

I've now ridden four rides tubeless and I'm definitely a convert. The increase in grip and resistance to snakebites is what does it for me. Changing to Ardents tonight since the Ignitors sidewall on the rear is in very bad shape (was quite worn before switching to tubeless).

The Stan's conversion has been flawless after the first failure (which was entirely to blame on too low pressure).
