shoque and beatle – thanks for your advice (shoque) and warm wishes (beatle). I'm looking forward to wearing these new jeans. One of the reasons I bought lighter jeans is that I may be traveling to India within the next year. No way is 21oz denim gonna fly in Chennai, India ! To be honest, even 15oz is overkill but that's what I'll go with. Shoque...there's a shitload of shrinking left in those Samurai's -- I'm gonna throw all 3 ("new" Iron Heart Cyclists, Samurais, Sugar Canes) in the hot wash and hot tumble dry (inside out) asap. The Sugar Canes and Samurai's are not my usual preferred fit ...they're going to be more straight-cut-ish...but I'm hoping that they'll look cute anyway.

In my humble opinion.  Hot wash OK.  Tumble dry, even inside out could cause you some fade lines that you don't like…G

          @shubharamani:

So, it's a l-o-ooong story but recently, an unexpected $650 fell into my lap. So of course, being the denim-head that I am…I blew $400 of it. This time, I did something different. I followed Seul's and DougNg's cue and gave pre-owned Japanese denim  on SuFu a try. I figured, why the fuck not ?

I also (dead's urging helped) loosened up my morals and gave lighter weight denim/other brands, as well as different fits -- a chance.

          Here's what I bought :

          1. Samurai S0500XX 15 oz Texas Cotton (with the Arcs, from 2nd), W28, L32. They've been soaked once only -- haven't tried them on yet but they look brand fucking new. They're beautiful. The feel of this denim is just amazing. Crunchy galore (dead, something you often discuss -- the crunchiness of certain denim) and quite rigid and heavy though just 15 oz. I bought based on measurements, not tag size...and 15 inches in the waist for STF sounds just about right. These likely have more shrinking left in them. These are $350 on BIG and BIG's version lacks rear-pocket designs. I paid only $170 shipped, bought from alleyooptroop.

          2. A BRAND NEW RAW PAIR of Sugar Cane Okinawas (not even soaked) in W29/L33.5...for $200. As you probably know, Sugar Cane Okinawas are 14.5 oz denim. Bought from chantheman.

I've received the Samurais and the Iron Heart Indigo Cyclists already (the latter purchased from foldingsocks). They're pretty much new jeans, without tags (the Samurai's soaked once but barely worn). I'm waiting for the Okinawas to arrive (probably today).

          Fit pics soon !

          Shubha

          Truly friggin sweet Shubbz. Enjoy!!!!

Sweet purchases,  Shubz!.. Buying 2nd hand denim to try out a brand or certain model is where it's at. Used to have the SO500XX, didn't like the fit. Went with SO500VX and those were better (but sold them after I got 710XX - my fav Sam fit). I still intend to purchase a SO500VX 21oz. in the future. 170 $ shipped is an excellent price as well btw.

Nice pick up's. Pick of the bunch has to be the Sugarcanes for the denim and the materials and details used in the finish, not the cut of jean to have you want a 'fit' but  a pair to hve for sure. I love mine 🙂

Thanks everyone for your advice. Fit pics soon, promised ! It seems like on SuFu, lots of skinny (W28/29), barely used stuff comes up for great prices. I think people (mostly Asian dudes, it seems) guess too small and after a hot soak, the jeans end up too tight – and not returnable. This is particularly true when people order stuff from ratuken, 2nd or rebirth (via a proxy or directly). I've noticed that many SuFu members prefer to buy their Samurai from 2nd and ratuken because they get the beautiful arcs and tabs that way -- which BIG doesn't offer. So yeah...I need to try these on yet (tonight) but I'd be a fool not to take advantage of other people's mistakes on SuFu !

I do fucking love that IH bracelet, Seul. Have you weighed it? It must feel v.weighty.

Not quite sure if I remember correctly but I think Giles said it was either 6 or 9 ounces.

The wallet chain is 9oz, I can't remeber what the bracelet weighs and I don't have one here to weigh…G

Next time I'm at my local silver-and goldwear shop, I'll weigh it. Just came from there but forgot to do so.

Jus curious man, I've got an auto wrist watch that weighs in at about 250 grammes and this has a good heft to it.

250g for a wrist watch? Wow! What model is that? A massive gold submariner?

Happened to pick up this vintage 1960's Levis type III jacket this week. It's seen some life and could probably tell a good story (if it wasn't just a denim jacket!). Cheak out the combs on the arms  😘

It has the code 347 on the buttons, does that mean anything to anyone here?
