The sole is 'Goodyear Welt' - they are really well made and hard wearing.
The overcoat is a Fred Perry Crombie‚ I wouldn't normally wear a black coat with brown boots‚ but I wore a (Paul Smith) scarf with both colours in it.

They're awesome boots dead. I like the "matted" (duller) one below.

The so-called engineer heel (the one that gets thinner at the bottom) always reminds me of Mary Poppins or Witch boots. Too feminine for my taste. The top boot is nicer for a man.

                  What brand/model is it?

Are those RW DougNg?  They look just like my black RW.  Frye makes a chukka alot like that too.

Yessir, they just came out by RW for this season. Very stoked about wearing them out

I also have a Frye Chukka, VERY comfy

For the money, I swear by FRYE and RW. I have three pairs of each

Btw, for reference: I wear a 9.5 in the GT's with an insert, and they're perfect. For the suede chukka I just got from RW, I also wear a 9.5 but without an insert. So these run half a size larger for me than the GT's

I'm concerned that if I wear the light grey suede boots in this torrential rain they'll look terrible too soon. I have plenty of clothes I beat the snot out of, and plenty of boots that I do as well, but I bought these for dinner parties and such and I don't always want to look like I just walked away from working in the forge. That make any sense?

Then again, I don't have much experience with suede. My nubuck boot look like a box of smashed assholes after six months of tearassing in them. Any tips on taking care of suede? I already sprayed them twice with that protectant stuff I got at the market, and I have a suede brush and eraser in case I spill something on them.

DEP, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. They remind me of my combat boots, but a lot nicer

Doug, those boots are great. Very elegant. You are absolutely right that there are boots for beating and boots for dressing up. These ones are in the latter category, I agree.

There are ways to actually wash suede with a suede soap when it gets dirty. I've never tried it but it's supposed to work. You then have to rough them up again.

The accessories you have are what I use, too. They are ok for general maintenance but keeping suede looking like new is almost impossible (I find it is impossible but perhaps others have more luck).

The thing that gets them the most is grease. You spill grease on suede or nubuck boots and you will most likely never get the stain out again.

Do a google on cleaning suede. You will see there are some options but I've never tried it out.

You mean suggestions to clean the belt or for a belt to wear with those shoes or in general? For cleaning, proceed like for shoes. The advantage of the belt is that you can lay it out flat and really go to town in terms of pressure and rubbing.

Some shoe manufacturers also make belts from the same leather but for Frye's and RW I'm not sure. Might be worth asking them. I think it would be a good business idea for them. Of course, you know all about the IH belts and Tanner and the other SuFu faves. You probably also read what I said about the manufactum ox leather belt from Germany. I love that thing. It's about 9-10mm thick, a single leather layer. Ages beautifully, too. I'm very happy with it. It's a great value at around 100 Euro. Manufactured by Bernd Kreis of Germany. He also makes REALLY nice custom belts that would be worth looking into.

Should we start a belt thread?

Ok. Well, if you don't have a grey belt (I just got one but it wasn't so easy to find) I think a black belt would be good when you wear the boots with black jeans and a tan or light brown belt (like the leather piece between the shoe and the sole) with blue jeans. At least that's what I would do.

However, I was surprised how few measurements they take for the last. I'd have thought they actually make a mold of your foot and then work on the cast from there. Still impressive. Thanks again. I put it on my twitter right away.
