Man, you guys are making me jones for some SDs. I love the dissonance created by the right blend of clean, classic, and rugged. These'll be my next foot ware. I really love Urb's and Bagley's. Those two soles and to cap or not to cap are the real decision I'll have to make before fall gets here.

My black ones are Smoke Jumpers Joe. My brown ones are SD's. Obviously they can be designed to look however you like with soles and such but just slight difference.

Love this leather! Sent the pic to bakers to see what the official name of this leather is.  They think it is the classic brown leather.  Mega, do you know what the official name is? I want to use it on my next build…. thanks in advance

Hey TM, just replied to your PM and then read the thread…...I should have done it the other way  :-\

All I know is that Nicecrackaction described it to me a brown oiled leather, it probably is classic brown with some wear and oil based polish used.

Made in England, clothed in Japan, fed in America and drunk in Belgium !

As Mega stated above and Baker's also spotted correctly, these are standard brown oiled leather. Applying a lot of wax in the beginning speed up the patina-building process.

Yeh, I had it on my last SD's, and I have it incoming on my new SJ's. I think on the bigger boots, like the SJ's, it looks fine. They are a rugged boot anyway, so it just adds to the overall look and feel of the boot, but it is very much a love or hate sole.

The upsides to the 100 are height, traction, and it takes longer to wear down than just about any other Vibram sole. The downside is that it does kind of limit the occasions when you can wear your boots, like I said I had it on some SD's, which I used to wear with trousers as "smart shoes" when called upon, with a big lug sole like the 100 they looked ridiculous as a formal shoe.

In short, the 100 is great if you like it, but don't expect to pair it up with anything other than denim or duck.

Again, I have to agree with Mega. And add that the 100's are adding some stiffness and a lot of friction to any boot. If you are going to use them in the wild and the snow, that's fine. If you use them on your way to the office, you'll notice that the 100 is a serious outdoor sole all the time. Your office will also notice that you "import" lot's of gravel in the winter, if you live in a place where that applies.

If you want more height, you can also add another midsole and for for a composite or a mini sole and still get the same overall height.

I have both 100's (Skip a few pages back in this thread to see my "collection") and other soles and use them according to their purpose. IN the city, they are just as much as home as any SUV.

well with that said, i still do like the look the 100 gives. i like the ruggedness, and i do live in the city, even though i wouldn't use it as they are meant to be used for, it still could be useful to me when I eventually do need them, and I'd rather get an SUV in the city and look like a badass than to settle for a nice little saloon car. It still doesn't change my mind about getting the 100s!
