      I see Chris!..Don't worry mate: you know I'd never think of anything you say as condescending or pedantic!.. Here it's different though… We throw fish, chicken, veggie stuff and meat on the bbq!.. Having a bbq with all my fav mates July 28th, I'll try and take some pics...

        @Chris:

        Too bad BBQ doesn't travel well, otherwise I'd bring you some in October.  Suppose I still could, if you'd like…

        Don't tempt me with a good time

        @Chris:

        So Seul, if you ever come to visit, don't ask someone to put falafel on the barbecue.  At best, you'll get strange looks, and in no instance will you get what you actually want to eat.:D

        If you're vegan or vegetarian I would just forgo Texas altogether. You'd get the same treatment as if you had "Atheist" branded on your forehead.  😉

          It's cool; folks around here call that "grilling".  As in, "We're gonna be grilling some burgers and hot dogs in the back yard on Saturday.  Wanna come by, maybe drink a few beers and watch the game?"

          For Independence Day, (July 4th) my next door neighbor did the same thing you've got planned.

          Gotta love those regional variations in language, huh?

              The horror.

              Yeah, you'd just die the moment you set foot on that hot BBQ covered holy ground.

                Hahaha, sadly, I think this is true.  Even in Houston, easily the most diverse city in Texas, vegetarians are considered odd, unless it's for religious reasons.  My wife, who grew up in San Antonio, once confessed to me that she was in her mid twenties before she realized that something without meat could actually be considered a "meal".

                    You should come during Rodeo, Seul.  It would be the most otherworldly experience of your life…

                    And you would be totally safe; Texans try to be kind to the less fortunate (defined as anyone not Texan, but especially folks from unenlightened locales like Europe.  Or shudder New York City).

                      Chris, it's not just Texas. I was raised by a strictly working class English father, who contended until the day he died that a meal without meat is not a meal.

                        Damn Yankees  😠

                        Although, in the UK anyone from the US is referred to as a Yank, or Yankee by the older generations.

                          True, and we're ok with that.  Non Americans get a pass on the blanket use of Yankee.  Southerners tend to get offended if called that by other Americans, though.

                          Southerners tend to get offended by a lot, now that I think about it.  Testy bunch, we are.

                              BTW, I was born in Houston, Texas.  I do not eat dead animal carcasses or animal lactations.  I have lived in Texas for half of my life.

                              Meat is as necessary to a human body as sugar is to a car's engine.
