      Do you study arts?

Yes i do, but I came up with this method on my own outside of school.  Very few artists work in colored pencil, and those that do mostly practice photographic realism (or copying a photograph, in other words)- look at www.cpsa.org.  In retrospect, I wish I would've spent my university tuition on IH gear.

Awesome work Adam.  At first I wasn't quite sure what to make of it, but now that I see the process I really like what you're doing.  Great stuff

            Hey Guys,

Just wanted to post a quick little project I made for the wife last night.  She told me she wanted some type of lanyard that will keep her keys readily handy so she won’t have to open her purse and retrieve them from a pocket or worse, keep digging around her purse to find them all the time.  Big Daddy to the rescue!  She usually carries something similar to the Coach pictured, so I thought the choice of natural horse hide with white thread and a nickel snap would work for most of her “gear”.  The HH had a small blemish on one side, but no biggie as she liked it anyway, but she did request that her next one be a bit shorter in length…  I’m sure that’s a phrase most husbands don’t hear very often!  Thanks for looking!

                        Hey Guys,

I have finally been able to complete my 1st bi-fold wallet made from the gator hide that my buddy actually killed!  This stuff looks awesome and I think the wallet turned out pretty good.  As you can see from the pics I was able to use a great piece of belly hide with just a bit of grain on each side.  The interior is made of 2-3oz. natural veg tan leather that has been left untreated and will hopefully age to a beautiful patina.  I wish the stitching would have turned out a bit better, but the bumpy hide makes it hard to keep the stitches straight, but worse things have happened!  I am pleased that the overall thickness is only ½”, so it shouldn’t grow too much with the addition of a little cash and the 8-10 cards I usually carry.

                        Thanks for looking!

Agreed.  And gator is tough to sew, even for professionals.  I know a couple of veteran bookmakers that hate working with the stuff for exactly the same problem you had.

I think it might be easier to work with if you soak it before sewing, if you're planning on making something else, you might give that a shot to see if it helps.

Here’s the latest card wallet and my first time working with purple dye!  And I found that the dye is very effective!  It was tough to get a decent photo of this one due to the dark color, but you’ll be able to get a decent idea of the finished color and the variations the dye has on different sections of the hide I used.  I think this one will patina fantastically as it ages!  Hope you like it, D!

That purple dye looks real good.  Not a huge fan of that color in general but I like how that turned out a lot.
