A little more than the 8005A, but a classic straight cut and you won't have to bugger around with the cinch..  G

if Giles had anything with old arcs and tabs, in my size, for a deal  😞 dude, its not a matter of how much its a matter of how long till it gets here!

and to touch on the nudie v FH, people buy nudies because they have all the modern, slim, hipster cuts. Flat head is a bit higher up on the food chain with premium denim and quality material and construction. Just depends on what you are looking to pay for. Def look into those 5100's tho… lucky, they have your size

Simon, you might want to take a look at Kicking Mule Workshop for straight leg raw denim. There are a couple deals out there to be had. I vaguely remember paying around $100 on Revolve

It's a great denim with a nice weight that's natural indigo dyed

drz, it's cool. To each his own, Man. But it's funny…I've noticed that San Francisco and Oakland bikers prefer black denim. Whenever I ride BART, I always see bikers in black denim rather than indigo. Remember JackCrank, the dude introduced by LandoCal -- who pummeled his 9301 Slim SuperBlack jeans in a matter of 4 months  (but later got them fixed expertly by Kiya's recommended tailor) ?  He is an avid biker and he seems to prefer black as well. I dunno...but bikers and black denim seem to go together, at least in The San Francisco Bay Area.

The only thing I prefer about unsanforized is the crunchiness I get after the original shrink. Selvedge doesn't matter to me much, but that being said, the only jeans I have that is not selvedge is my brown cotton duck jeans that don't come in selvedge.

Raw is a must though, I'll never go back to pre distressed or stonewashed. My Imperial Kings have been beat up and washed to the point where the thighs are pretty much stone washed, but I love the contrast between the thighs and the lower part of the legs

High contrast fades for me have never been a priority for me and my jeans reflect it, after as many washes my jeans go through in a year, there's not much in the way of honeycombing behind the knees

The one thing I've never wrapped my mind around is button fly though. While I'm all for tradition, they're a real bitch to open and close after my fifth or sixth margarita. I'm probably the only one on this board that will go for the new Superblack jeans with the zipper over the button fly

There was a zipper scene involving Ben Stiller in the movie "There's Something about Mary" (Mary played by Cameron Diaz) – that I'll never forget ! OUCH ! Seul is right DougNg. Better to walk around with your button fly undone or fucked up than have your thing ripped up by the zipper !

i can undo the button about as fast as a zipper. unless you are talking about the first couple of days… but yeah man, i dont see the zipper as that much of a problemo. aside from needing to undo your belt and top button to pee. thats about the extent of the 'annoyingness' i would say.

Acne seems a strange name for a jeans brand. They may have well called them "Zits".

Simon, as your den mother I think you should not waste your money. Compared to your Iron Hearts, you'll hate them. Once you've been "ruined" by Iron Heart jeans, any other brand is going to look paltry and weak (except for possibly Samurai). Save up your money and buy a pair of IH. Better yet, cruise on SuFu. I'm astounded at the deals on SuFu for virtually new IH jeans. People just keep getting the wrong fucking size (then soaking them, deeming them un-returnable), or they lose weight, gain weight, etc…there are lots of deals to be had. I bet if you keep tabs on SuFu, you'll have a new pair of perfectly fitting, relatively new Iron Hearts within a month -- for $150 off retail.

I have many pairs of jeans, Skulls, Sugarcanes, Flat Head, Imperial, Kicking Mule Workshop, ESEF…and more than one pair for a few of those brands...I would never call any of them paltry or weak

OK, maybe I was off-base in calling other brands paltry and weak. I probably don't have a right to speak on this topic anyway because I only own IH and I'm very new to the Japanese Denim game. I don't know shit, basically. Perhaps better advice for Simon would be to cruise SuFu, looking for good deals on other premium Japanese denim brands.

Simon, my advice about the ever-popular "get the expensive one that I really want" or "get the cheaper alternative in the interim" is this:  If you buy what you really want, it only hurts once, where as if you get something cheaper in between, it hurts twice (at least).  I would much rather save for what you REALLY want rather than settle for now.  That being said, there are some excellent deals to be had on lightly used denim on SuFu and the like.  It's not uncommon for someone to snag a pair of jeans, soak/wash them, and then hate the fit.  That's where you swoop in!

Back to the topic, I will buy unsanforized if possible, but sanforized is a close second.  I love a project (breaking in leather boots, softening a stiff leather jacket, developing an un-copyable patina on undyed leather, of course the whole denim thing, cars/motorcycles, the list goes on) so the unsanforized stuff fits in perfectly.  You need to research shrinkage and how to size, then you order and wait for them to arrive (I'm not lucky enough to have a brick and mortar place in my area to buy from), freak out when they finally do arrive (longest 4 days of your life!), try them on when they are unsanforized and huge, soak/wash, wait forever (again) for them to dry, THEN you finally get to profit when you put on those new crispys.  Sorry, I got a little caught up there.

@simon- you said you were looking at the 200 range for a pair right now. I believe you said you have a pair of 301s right? at this moment you can order the 8005A, which, while i think a nice and different pair of jeans in the Flat Head family, will be a BIG change next to your 301s. I do think, by farrrrr, that if you get any jeans that will make you  😉 for one helluva deal, its the 5100's. Not only is that a model that was produced for a small run (ani version, right???) it is going to have the original arcs and red tab, which in this day and age, for such a young collector, you'll be wearing them every chance you get. If you dont believe what i'm telling you, save those extra 40 bucks (mow some lawns, paint a fence, walk some dogs, etc) and order those jeans. Honestly, you will never regret it.
