Shit, after having to button up my 634SRs all week, I'll gladly take a zipper…damn things are so stiff I need a shoehorn to close my fly...

I know violence is not the answer, I got it wrong on purpose

It looks good! So that's the 4th wash? I can see there's almost no whiskers or honeycombs but the black has dulled a bit and some mild right knee wear.
I'm sure some fraying or rips would look awesome but I doubt the fabric on these would allow that…

I'm not happy at all that the IH-9634 is being fucked with. Seriously. That's a beautiful jean ! Zipper ? C'mon ! I guess if we truly adore this jean as is, we need to stock up on a couple more pairs.

What waist size are you?  I'll pop a pair aside for you, if I have them, if you want them that is.  If I have not got a pair I'll rip the stockroom apart in Hachioji on Saturday looking for a pair

Giles, in the IH-9634 I'm a Waist 29 or 30 (I like to wear those Boyfriend style). But Self Edge in San Francisco has my size in stock – so you don't have to do that. Sorry bud...you know I live literally 10 minutes (driving) from the Self Edge store (Mission neighborhood, SF) ! By BART, I'm there in 30 minutes tops. I'll probably pop in tonight and grab a pair.

Actually Giles – I changed my mind. Guess what I'm gonna do ? In January 2010, I'm going to order a pair of W29 IH-9461 (Super Black 22 oz in Boot Cut) from you -- altered to a length 30. Kiya doesn't stock the boot-cut version and I love boot-cut. I can't do it now (I'm traveling to Paris this Christmas, which won't be cheap). But in January, you'll get an order from moi for those ! There aren't too many W29 folks runnin' around so I'm hoping that you'll still have those in stock by then. One of the benefits of being so tiny is that my size seems to sell out last. PS. In the skinny/slim IH versions, I wear a W28 ! As the controversial ad campaign for Intel (the chip company) once said : "You can never be too rich or too thin". And from Kate Moss: "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.". Although, I'll admit, I'm not Kate Moss skinny -- don't really wanna be -- but heroin (coke ?) chic looks fabulous on her !

Super Blacks!!! Don't really see the point. And to add to the Great Debate that is Zipper or Buttons, well it has to be buttons for me. Have to say though i am a sucker for a good Talon zip 🙂

LandoCal, guess you didn't hear the news ? The button-fly on the IH-9634 is gone buddy. Giles said in an earlier post that motorcycle-ridin' customers bitched about them too much – that the top button was pinching them or some shit. Can you believe it ?

I think it's rather the lowest button closest to the crotch because that's where, unfortunately, my 634SR (same cut) pinch me. When you are just walking along, that is easy to rectify but still not good. But when you are riding a bike that really sucks. It is clear that the 9634Z are much more comfortable than the 634SR, at least for now that the SR isn't fully broken in.

shub, I was referring to Heavy Duty's comment about not "seeing the point" in SuperBlacks?!? I am fully aware of the IH-9634 zipper travesty. Button Flys Rule the World!!!

A black denim, that fades reallllly slowly. Find that rather dull tbh

While I own a pair of 9634Z and love them, I can totally see your point. If you are into BLUE jeans and dig the way they fade and do the wabi-sabi thing then "fadeless" black jeans are obviously not gonna give you a big thrill.

I like both concepts because they are on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Got it in one Till. Dark indigo fades to a lovely blue/white hue that still looks great. Black fades to grey and looks washed out and past their use by date and thus need replacing. All imho of course.

I wear the 9301 Slim Super Black (W28) from Self Edge in San Francisco and yes – they do stretch. Mine have stretched at least an inch in the waist since I've owned them...and I've never washed/soaked them plus I've worn them around 30 times. I'm glad that these jeans were rather tight when I bought them because now, they're actually a little loose.

HD, the thing with black and especially the IH Superblack is that it is really easy to "refresh" them. When they are grey-ish and you don't like the look just throw them in the washing machine with some black fabric dye. I've done that with underwear and t-shirts and it works great. Or you could actually apply a dark blue dye and do your own overcast. Like the new "sexy" overdye jeans just the other way around, you start with a black and do a blue overdye. I imagine the result would be pretty interesting. Since many of these dyes come in powder form, you can even mix a bit of blue and black pigment.

Shub, don't worry. If you give them a hot wash or even follow it with a hot tumble dry, they will shrink back. Perhaps not the full inch but a good amount.

Your "refreshing" technique sounds very interesting Till. When my Super Black Iron Hearts look old and washed out [which will likely happen in the next millenium, given my gentle life], I may just have to try a dark blue dye on 'em – wow, that would be cool !

Yeah, I know that when I do a hot wash/hot tumble dry, the jeans will be nice and snug again. When I bought them, I could barely stick my fingers in my front pockets -- they were that tight ! And now -- well, perhaps you saw the pics I posted last week, wearing my 9301 Slim Super Blacks ? They weren't baggy at all -- just looser than I'd like. So yeah -- IH Super Black jeans sure as hell do stretch at least an inch if not more, with repeated wear.

What is funny is how jeans can do that for quite a long time. The fibers are such that they will expand and contract almost indefinitely. One should think that after ten washes that effect is done with, but no.

Yes, blue overdye on Superblacks would be super hot!
