Or you could look in this thread at DougNg and his IH Brown Duck Riders Jacket. I understand that the material is not the same and may fall differently but I'd say it's damn close!

Only worn 634SR's for 5 hours and have about 45degree seam twist on left leg as well - I personally like the look a lot.

So what's the deal of the 45 degree left leg only twist. I have seen other pictures of other brand selvage raw jeans and it was actually the same thing. Must have something to do with the construction why the left leg would twist but not the right one. Probably how they put the pattern on the cloth to make the cut. Not sure.

Stewart, I had the same trouble turning the jeans but it didn't quite take my that long. But it was still a wrestling act with an alligator rather than washing pants.

Oh, and can you please post a better picture of your jeans. I'd like to see if the six month straight method was worth it in this case. Mine have been soaked 2 or 3 times by Giles before I got them and washed once with mild detergent in the bathtub by myself after I had worn them for two weeks almost every day.

I don't have whiskers yet but can see some fade on the pockets and knees starting to happen.

              Till

Hello friends. Here's me in my Iron Heart 9301 Slim Super Black (W28, length unaltered) and black Sugar Cane studded belt (W32). Both were purchased from Self Edge, San Francisco, CA. Oh, if it matters – that's an Adidas track jacket I'm wearing. These pics were taken at my workplace in Alameda, CA. Yeah, this is how I dress to work. Super cool, huh ? I have a pretty cool job, if I must say so.

Agreed! However a little tighter in the rear would not go a miss 😉

You are so-o-o right Heavy Duty ! You know, every pair is different and though these are a W28 just like my IH 301S, they're a tad baggier than I'd like. They were quite tight on my butt when I first got them but after about 30 wears, they've loosened up.  I haven't soaked/washed them yet.

I gotta say I agree with beatle. I understand that different people live in different parts of the world and may not be able to access a proper Chainstitcher, but if you are going to order a pair of IH's why not go all the way and finish off the job… Properly?

Look at the hem of your IH jeans from the inside. You will see two threads that form like chain links or teardrops. On the outside you only see a single stitch.

With the normal stitching there is only a single thread outside AND inside.

The chainstitching is stronger and it will also give a somewhat irregular, bubbly hem. That's where you get what I'd call crown fading all around the leg opening.

                                        Till

Damn Till, your knowledge of textile/denim rivals my knowledge of computers, software and operating systems ! Thanks for the explanation. I didn't know that chainstiched-or-not made one shit of difference to the way the jean fades but now I've learned something. In that case, yes, agreed…with IH, you should definitely wait for chainstiched -- if you can.

In fact it is a moot point whether chain-stitching is in fact stronger than ordinary stitching.  Because the looped chain on the inside sits proud of the denim, it is more prone to wear.

That said, what chain stitching does do is really enhance the "roping" of the stitched hem as it fades.  And that is what a lot of people love
