As you already figured out, Doug, I carry a Strider PT.

Could you post up a pic of the back pocket fade? When I saw that the fade was distinct enough that I could see the PT profile, I was amazed

Other knives in my rotation are a Small Classic Sebenza with blue leather inlays, a Chris Reeve Umnumzaan, a Hinderer XM-18, a Caswell EDC, and an RJ Martin Q-36.

Still, the Large Sebenza is always my "go to" knife, and the patina on the handles show it

Dave, how are you sharpening it? I used to use a Sharpmaker until Jerry Hossom turned me onto using a belt sander, and I've never looked back

I "had" a SOGG Visionary II and lost it. Then stepped it up to a SOGG X-Ray Vision (Tonto) which I have also since lost. Now… I have nothing in the way of knives... Need to get on that!

SOG's are nice knives, but for their price range, I really prefer Kershaw

Doug, ask and you shall receive.  It's an older pic so the outline is more defined now, but you get the idea (maybe I'll snap some pics this weekend).

I forgot to mention what I use to sharpen.  I am currently using a sharpmaker and I"m not all that happy with the results I'm getting (I find the time/result ratio to be better with my 5 stone Lansky kit).  I have been on the fence about an Edge Pro for awhile now though…

Paula bought me an Edge Pro a few months ago, I love it.  I can actually sharpen knives now.

              Anyways, here's my motley collection:

Not that I'm particularly a bleeding heart liberal or anything but what's the legal situation in the USA with regard to carrying knives? IIR here in the UK if you carry a blade over 2 inches then you are potentially prosecutable.

Most states won't let you carry a fixed blade here. Pretty much all states won't let you carry a switchblade/butterfly knife

Folding knives are really what most states allow you to carry, and then there are local knife laws that dictate how large the folder can be. In NYC, it's 4" limit on the blade length. I believe in CA and MA it's less than 3"

That being said, I've carried larger folders than 4" and fixed blades in the past without getting harassed by police.

My Sebenza is about 3.5" in length, so I'm street legal today!

                    Are you on USN/CKG/JD, Dave?

I'm on USN, not sure what those other two are.  I am on a plethora of other forums on other topics related to USN stuff though (other steel stuff that is not cutlery…).

I tried carrying a fixed blade for "oh $hit" situations for awhile and just couldn't find a comfortable way to do it.  It was a good excuse to buy an SLCC though...

I think we crossed paths years ago when someone threw out the idea at Patrick of TAD to make jeans

The one fixed blade I find comfortable carrying is a custom by Joe Brum. It has a 3.5" blade and a three finger handle, I can put it on my belt at about the appendix and point the tip towards my left shoulder and it doesn't feel like it's there. I can deploy it faster than any knife I have.

Of course, it doesn't help that I like large fixed blades for the most part, including two Hossom bowies and a 3V Nkonka that's coming in next week

I go by YelloMunky on USN, but I haven't posted there in years

Giles, what about the first three knives from the top? Which brands? Especially the one with the paracord is very cool.

I am not so equipped for knives. There is a Swiss Champion knife in my daybag, limited edition scales from the Locarno film festival, very fancy (I got two smaller models with scales from the festival from different years, too). I also have to Laguiole knives, one with a Japanese lacquer surface on the scales and one with scales made of amber. Plus a flat tactical Spyderco Police knife. That one has a four inch blade, IIRC, I use it mostly to open packages at home. Don't know if it's legal in Texas.

The first 2 are a couple I bought from a maker South Africa 10 years ago. I'll try and remember his name and let you know

These three see pretty regular carry

These occassionally go out with me, but I find their blades a little thick for regular every day work, but they're great if I'm out exploring and don't know what I'll expect

And these I have mainly for fun and to show off to friends. They're great knives, but they're a little large for every day carry
