If I'm not mistaken there's no thread for this one and as I'm actually torn between this and the hickory logger jeans I thought I could open a special thread about the Super Black.

So, one of my main question is: does this ever fade? I've read about their extreme toughness and saw some very light fade (or dirt maybe?) pics on SuFu but I'm not sure.

Glad you started this Thread as this has to be my favorite pair of denim I own at the moment. I cannot speak to the wear of the Loggers as I do not own them "yet." As far as the 9634's go, they are an incredible Black Jean. I will post some photos of mine in the next day or two for examples of how they wear after heavy use. If you need a recommendation… I say buy em'!!!

Well, let's not get carried away, but yes the "saturation" becomes less if that makes any sense. Also, where the fabric rubs against itself or a belt, the denim gets a kind of shine. I will post pictures on Monday at some point…

That's kinda what I envision about the "fade", yes. I think that's your pics I've seen on SuFu by the way.

I do have a question about the fit. I'm just in between size 36 and 38 so should I play it safe and order a 38 or dare to size down as 36 are closer to 35?

The 9634 is being phased out and replaced by the 9634Z.

The differences are the new ones will come with a Zipper and the fabric, whilst being the same intense black and weighing in at 22oz, is a lot softer - more like the feel of the 634S.

I still have most sizes in the old version (but not 36), and there are none left in Japan.

If you are between 36 and 38 I would go for 38 in the old fabric and 36 in the new, as the new will stretch a tad.

You are not alone! I might have to snatch up another pair just to keep on ice… Zipper?!?!?!?!?

Haraki was getting a number of compaints from his biker customers that the buttons where uncomfortable when leaning over the tank of a bike. Sorry folks.

Gotcha. So are any of the other straight legs going to be switched to zipper exclusively as well?  😞

Not that I know of ATM.  I will double check with Haraki when I am in Japan.

I haven't noticed this with three different pairs of button fly jeans, but I also ride a sport bike so that might have something to do with it (dodges bottles, cans, Harley parts thrown his direction).

So Giles, you are all out of 36 then?  I saw a that there are still a couple of stores on Rakuten that have them.

No, I do have a 1 pair of 36's here.  None left at IHHQ though.

Do these stretch much/at all?  I am more or less a 35 waist and could get away with a 36 if they didn't stretch but I would probably prefer a 34 + a little stretch.  Thoughts?

As far as I am aware, no stretch in the 9634, LandoCal can you confirm?  The new 9634Z will stretch as the weave is much more like the 634S

Bummer.  The Selfedge page says that they stretch up to 1", but it looks like a lot of that description is copied from the 634S page.

                                      OK OK OK

the superblacks are the most intense black jeans ever. add a superblack riders jacket and you have the slickest jeans combo available anywhere.  BUT they are a gateway drug! they led me to the 634S and well… the super and ultra heavy flannels.

first you must admit there is a problem..... but that is another story for another day. i digress.

                                      anyhooo....

i am soooo excited by a softer 9634Z. i want a set as soon as they are available!

i have never dug buttons on jeans in the first place and that would be a variation (or customization) on the 634S i would opt for as well. i probably should have been pursuing this avenue myself. buttons suck, even the best IH buttons. besides what about a killer heavy duty IH zipper, maybe even a coated black zipper for 9634Z?

my main prob with the 9634 is the stiffness. bring on the 9634Z. count me in.

sizing bits. i am a 32 in 634S. clay told me to buy the superblacks a size up to 33. he was right. i got the opp to try the 9634 in both 32 and 33 and the 32 was waaaay too tight and restrictive. if i had bent over to tie my shoes, i would have popped something . i am thinking that i can go back to 32 in a slightly softer pair.

hey Giles, any timetable on the 9634Z?

They're available now, but I am (by default) only pulling them in when I run out of a size in the 9634.  I get a delivery from Japan  every 2 weeks or so, so if you want a pair, let me know and I'll pull them in on the next shipment.

so let me bring this up here, how about a 9634Z with all black hardware? maybe coated rivets / coated zipper?

gee, while i am at it, howzabout the IHB-03 with the same coating on a buckle?
