Strongly considering a pair of Custom Oxford Roughouts or Custom Cougar Roughouts. Anyone own a pair of either model?

Morse on Superfuture has a pair of the roughout oxfords, and they look great. The only thing I dislike about both the oxfords and the cougars is the Vibram Christy sole, it wears out far too quickly, and is next to useless in rough weather.

Thanks Mega. Yeah I was going to hit up Morse but as Sufu is down that might be a while. He actually has a few pairs if I remember correctly. I would text him but think I lost his cell number. As for the Vibram Sole, I love it. It makes both the oxford and boot for me. I understand it is not the most practical sole and not everyone's cup of tea, but it is mine. Many moons ago I owned a pair of White's Semi Dress. I absolutely HATE the style and cannot stand the block sole. I am sure I am in the minority but they just ain't my style. Thanks for the heads up!

I still think that the christy sole wears down far too quickly for a shoe or boot as good as this. The soles on my Abingtons wore down in less than 18 months. If you can bear the cost of resoling them often, then I admit that they do look really, really good. Either way, picking up a pair of Whites is always a good decision in my mind.

Are these available anywhere other than from bakers?
I sort of doubt it.. baker's calls them the bakers oxford

I am going to finalize my order with bakers tomorrow. They just called me to confirm size going with a 11B. I still can not decide on the taper heel or block, I have also been teetering on full comp of half comp. Does anyone have any expeirience with half comp, full comp seems to be the most popular, but I like the half comp, because you get the all leather heel.

Double midsole can be a bitch to break in. I think that's part of the reason I found my SJs painful. My HH looks like a double, but it's more like a 1.5. I think they used two thinner pieces of leather because the insole is shaved into the second layer of leather to form a continuous piece. You can't really see it in any of the photos I posted. They made up for the height of the midsole in mine by lowering the heel slightly from a standard single sole.
The composition half sole on the pair you posted basically sits on top of two full midsole layers and doesn't flow from the rubber to leather smoothly. I'll try to get a pic in a little bit.

Dave you are correct. I like the look of the all leather heal, but the half comp on the forefoot does kind of have a weird flow to it.. I know what you mean. I just thought the flow looked a little better with the double midsole vs. the single midsole, does that make sense? That commando on the HH has a much lower profile then the 430 or 700 comp. It looks good damb to many decisions!!!
I have heard the double midsole is a bitch to break in….

double midsole with vibram 100.. It might be pretty similiar in thickness to the double mid, but the added heel height and rubber height add quite a bit.

theat helps a lot thanks Dave!! the commando has the best flow for sure, but I walk severel miles a day at work and it is mostly hard surfaces like sidewalk, asphalt, and tile… I was thinking the half comp 700 would give me a little more cushion which is why I am leaning towards it., but I like that commando a lot,, feck it I will just get two pair
