Watches - another OCD problem
-
Just had my email confirmation that the Lum-Tec M38 is being dispatched tomorrow! Very excited…

Nameness is killing it over here.. And michaeljcr, that Lum-Tec sure looks nice, I love "Bell & Ross"-esque dials and hands so that hits loads of spots for me. I've decided that I'll save up for that Rolex I've always wanted, so there will be a minimal amount of spending money on other things for a while. I'll have to go pre-owned though, so no Datejust II for me but probably an Explorer II or a classic Submariner date. Something that looks nice on both bracelet and my favorite, the Nato/zulu band.

Nameness is spreading the joy here alright!
Jii, I think I might have to start saving up for a Rolex as well one day soon. No impulse control though, so it may never happen!
Re: Lum Tec, I got the last M38 which is kind of nice in a way. Here's a quick shot from the site:
Real life pics soon when it arrives.

I'm a big fan of the Seiko Riki Watanabe automatic w/ black leather band.

I love Seiko watches, superb range and generally good value for money.

Just a random rant about watches…
Went trying out watches yesterday (- just for fun but still watches I have at some point considered owning more or less seriously at some point in life ). All except two left me cold. Tried on the Breitling Superocean Heritage 42, Omega Aqua Terra (42 mm) and Rolex No-date sub but they didn't speak to me at all. They're all very nice in pictures but IRL they felt bland, small or just meh. Two watches really appealed to me: The Rolex DJII was really nice but totally out of my price range and then I re-aquainted myself with the Breitling Avenger Seawolf (was seriously considering to buy this watch in 2008) which has gotten new baton dial options at some point last year which give the watch a more classic look than the stenciled numbers on the other dial option. And boy did it speak to me.. again..
Loads more to try out still, but that one really does catch my fancy.. The downside is that it's just the big clunky diver's watch that I always fall for but that's not a real downside now is it?
Found a nice pic of it on flickr...

Looking forward to seeing your pics!
Jii - That Breitling is very cool. Are you going to check out the Blacksteel version?

I have but even though I love PVD watches I don't think that's what I'm after right now. Got to try on a 2002 white dial Rolex Explorer Ii today and it was really nice as well - different from the Breitling but nice. Luckily I don't have the funds yet so I don't have to choose right now

Jii - that Breitling looks great! I was never a fan of theirs (which is just as well as I can't afford one!), but that one could change my mind. Very cool.

namenes - the M38 is in the hands of Parcelforce, so here's hoping it appears soon! The PF man came today with my new Beatle Busters (going back for hemming now I know they fit), and an above expectations USN issue Pea Coat from Silverman's.
No watch yet though…
Grenson Curt shoes in black tomorrow though all being well...
-
And the Lum-Tec arrived! Pictures aren't great I'm afraid…
It's awesome.

Cheers nameless, this one's down to you, I wouldn't have it if you hadn't posted yours.

Indeed! I'm a big fan of the NATO strap. I might get one of the cordovan leather ones one day. I've got a cheaper brown leather one on the way for a different watch to see how they wear. I'm wearing a James Bond pattern one on my divers watch at the moment and a OG green one on my Seiko 5.

After skimming through the Lum-Tec site, I have to admit, I'm interested in the tungsten watch. Anyone have a tungsten case watch? I'm interested in both the weight and the scratch resistance of it.
It's been too long since I bought a new watch…

My 18mm Leather Nato Watch strap arrived today (I haven't changed the date yet) from Holbans for my Christopher Ward Aviator. It's not a very exciting watch in most ways, but it was reasonably priced, keeps good time and I like the design. I chose the cordovan coloured leather but they have a few options I think.
The leather seems quite nice, it's thin but due to the design I think that's hard to avoid. It seems to be well made although as I've just got the Lum-Tec it might not get much wrist time for a while.

And here's candidate number three
or actually number one at the moment. Superocean Heritage 46. Big but not bulky, much dressier than my Sea Devil and simply stunning..
My love for automatic watches started with Breitling and it seems that they still speak to me more than any other brand. Just a month or two until I have the funds, so decisions will have to be made… It's either the Explorer two or this one. At the moment I have stronger feelings for this one, it just speaks to me more..
And ooooooh on this one with a leather Nato like Michaeljcr:s....
Decisions, decisions...
