Thanks for the reassurance. Yeah that second one is a Seiko SARB033 and it costs less than 500$ and from what I've read on the internet it's extremely good value for money. I'm actually kind of hoping that I'll feel comfortable with the size because I think it's a beautiful watch.

      AIAN HA-TO!

I wear a 42mm divers a lot, and I've got a 44mm dress watch, but I love my Seiko 5 38mm and my grandfathers old Omega which is pretty small. Smaller are also less annoying in the winter when layering shirts and jumpers, in my experience. You could swap out the stainless steel bracelet on that Seiko 5 as well for a nice leather one if you fancy a more casual look.

The Seiko SARB033 looks very nice, I might have to have a closer look myself!

I want one of these, not sure I can justify it though!

Been lusting after a simpler watch for a while now, so I just ordered this:

Got this today, some first impressions:

Boy is it small. At first I thought it's definitely too small for me but after wearing it I'm slowly getting used to it. Still on the fence anyway, I do think that 40-41 mm would feel better proportionwise. Anyhow, with the lack in size comes the lack in weight which feels quite nice for a change. The watch looks very nice in the flesh, the dial looks like it's made of brushed aluminium (whitish hue but still more silvery than white) and a nicely polished case. The bracelet feels a bit flimsy (which was expected) but pretty comfortable, but sadly it's brushed so there's quite a contrast between the case and the bracelet. No biggie though for this money.

I have to say that my feelings are more positive than negative for the moment. Very nice value for money. I guess I'll wear it for some time and then decide about the size. I'll definitely keep the watch as a dress watch if it doesn't turn out to be an everyday item.

Give it some wear, remember your test driving it for that other, much nicer watch. I think after a while you'll find the size isn't as important as the general asthetic, and feel of the watch. Your old watch will feel like a monster when you swap back!

Is the lume on that Lumtec as insane as I have read?

The lume is pretty awesome, even with just a quick daytime charging.

Here's a forum pic (not mine) of the same model, the M17:

Slava (Russian) auto.  Their current auto models are Japanese movements from what I glanced at.  I've never had an issue with it, but I don't really check time slippage.

Keeper for the most part, though I'm going to sell a few I've had for 2-5 years.  I've only bought one in the last couple of years.  At this point I really only want to buy stuff I'll keep until I die or give to my son.  My want list is pretty short: Submariner & a Stowa (probably a Marine).  Staying off of watch forums helps me not buy anything.

I'll post pics of my other ish as I wear them.

If I feel like flipping then I can just snag some G-Shocks for less $.

                                        re: Lum Tec

They used the Slavas on their earlier models, not sure why.  Maybe keep costs down?  You can probably do a Watchuseek search and find more info.  The dude behind LT used to make custom Panerai-y thingies (forget the term that rip-offs ;)) then moved on to his own watches.  Very happy with my LT.
