I used to have a Meisterstück goldcoloured ballpoint but lost it… Have been meaning to pick up a platinum one... Such a beautiful pen...

That Sailor looks intruiging. Def not my thing but looks pretty crazy... What's the appeal of it to you, Sir?..

Ah, the Sailor 1911! It's essentially their equivalent class to the Le Grand. I wanted a large, superior quality fountain pen, but couldn't really justify the £460 on the matching Montblanc when I got this one. I figured I'd go for the Demonstrator version (which is essential a fancy way of saying transparent) because I didn't want to look at it and think of it as a substitute for something else, and it's a little bit different. In general like demonstrator pens, and while this isn't a piston filler like the Montblanc, it's a first class pen in every respect. The nib in particular is very good, arguably better than the Montblanc in almost every way (including metal - 21K Gold), and the Japanese medium writes more like a European fine. It's my go-to workhorse pen, and at £185 when I bought it, much more affordable than many others of similar quality.

They do it in a variety of colour options as well, from standard black and gold/silver, to more lively colours. If you're looking for a top notch pen in that size range (just a bit smaller than the Le Grand), I highly recommend it.

Basically I'm a pen addict though, there'll always be more calling to me!

            Michael.

Hi Hectic! They look excellent. Can you post a picture of the fountain pen uncapped, so I can see the nib? I'm no expert, but it almost looks like it could be a Parker 51 - I'd need to see more of it though.

Something I both love and hate in equal measure. My Tokyo, Yamanote Line alarm clock.

The clock plays the arrival tones of the 6 most "popular" stations on Tokyo's Yamanote train loop, which circles central Tokyo. When we first went to Tokyo (as everyone does) we used the Yamanote line almost exclusively for our city exploration, and when we returned I found myself missing the cheery station jingles that announce the arrival of the train.

At huge effort, and no small expense, Mini has this alarm clock proxied for me (before I even knew what Proxy was) via a Taiwanese woman who she worked with's Aunty, who lived and worked in Japan.

I love this clock for the effort that my wife went to, to get it for me. I hate this clock as it tells me that I have to get up and go to work every morning.

Made in England, clothed in Japan, fed in America and drunk in Belgium !

Dude! That looks like the Parker 51 to me. It could be the 61, but I think it's the 51. The good news is, the Parker 51 is one of the most highly regarded fountain pens that Parker ever made, and sadly no longer in production. They're very popular in the fountain pen community and on eBay all the time, at least in their more mundane incarnations. If you get that cleaned nd professionally serviced, you'll have one of the nicest writing pens around, and a wonderful opportunity to use something your dad obviously enjoyed using. As you're in the UK, I'd suggest looking at this site:

                        http://penhome.co.uk/Parker%2051.htm

They can service it, put a new nib in etc. and let you know exactly what it is, as it might be a variation. It's not cheap getting a service, but worth it!

These are all variations on the Kaweco Sport, a small pen that becomes more standard sized when posting the cap. they're cheap, write exceptionally well and are perfect for everyday carry! All but one of these are fountain pens, and the other is a rollerball that takes standard fountain pen cartridges.

Fancy something a bit more tactical? How about this!

This one has an optional rollerball refill and alternate fitting included. It's big and silly, but it writes very well for a relatively inexpensive pen.

The Pilot Capless/Vanishing Point is seriously cool. The fine is a proper Japanese fine (more like a European EF), and the medium is more like a European Medium. They've just released an all matte black version which I'm trying to stop myself from buying.
