beside my fixed lens (35mm 1,8) i'm getting of getting a zoom lens again.
just owning the kid-version 18-55mm on my Nikon D5000…anything you would suggest (others feel free to answer as well!)...

and besides that i'm thinking of upgrading to a D7000 at the end of the year 🙂

well, you have the 16-35/4 which is very good, but somewhat slow. Nice for when you have light.
You have the 14-24/2.8 which is huge, expensive and (competing with the 21/2.8 distagon) the best piece of wide angle glass you'll ever get, but somewhat impractical and too expensive for a crop body really.

I loved my 18-50/2.8 sigma when I had a crop body.

Seize the day and don't you cry.

you know what you have there , right ? brilliant camera

It's such an awesome camera  😘 Too bad when the 5D MK III comes out I'm going to sell this one to get it (which was my intention in the first place).

          @crisone:

Love my 16-35, wanted a 17-40 first, but wanted a WA that can shoot in low light for indoor shots.

          Cris.

Word, the 16-35 is a faster lens so it is better for indoors. Plus I'm sure it is a better lens all together. Would love that lens actually, maybe if I shoot concerts (which would be a dream).

Go for the zoom! IMO from what I hear (and I have used it too) a 70-200 is your best bet. It really equates to being something like 130-300 or something like that on a crop, but if and once you go FF it is a pretty short focal length (shorter than your 50 on a crop). I don't know about Nikon though, but IMO go consider a 24-70 as that is one of the most versatile focal lengths and if you do the 70-200 would compliment it nicely. All you would need then is a fisheye, extremely wide angle lens and a TS lens 😉

As for the body I can't comment cause I only know of canon bodies 😃

thanks Rafa! Well with the exception of the last one it was the 50 1.2. Now I have the 24 1.4 and my god the lens is quite good! I love the bokeh on it. Here's another shot this one's of me though.

how many inches/ centimetres were you away from the mirror btw.?

since the D5000 was a gift from my gf, i actually CAN'T sell it (she'd be pissed and kick my ass!) so now i have to see that i can cop the D7000 just like that by selling all the equipment i've copped for the D5000 and so on…
                          mission impossible i'd say ;)…

yup, if all goes to plan thought I'm saving up for an 85 1.2, and a 50 1.4 and then sell off the 7D and get the 5D mark III when it comes out. This isn't set in stone though I would hope that i can at least get the 85 1.2 IF anything.

But its always good to have a spare camera 😉 it'll take a little longer but I'm sure its worth it. BTW my photography teacher has a d7000 and its a pretty sweet camera. I personally would keep the equipment though but I'm glad I chose Canon just because they have the better lenses 😉

since the D7000 is a bit heavier as the D5000 i also would need a new tripod and all the stuff i own atm…just for the D7000...going to be another hussle 🙂

Hm.. I mean I guess you could get a new tripod, but do you really need it? I know there are really crappy tripods out there that don't support certain cameras, but isn't yours a good one? As for upgrading though I think you should invest in some nice glass! But either way I'm sure you'll be happy. I would also look into whether or not Nikon will be releasing a new camera this year or not because newer technology > older technology. I don't care what anyone says 😉

Well good luck on your endeavors though! 🙂 I'll be looking forward to what you do.

Well keep researching! The D7k is a bit more money than the D5k. Ever consider the D300s? If you are getting really serious, Rafa, might as well just get a really nice DSLR. I'm waiting for the 5D MK III to come out since I have decided that once I'm off to college to minor in photography. Not to mention my photography teacher recommended to my mom that he wants me to take art lab so he can work one on one with me, so I guess I'm his favorite student 🙂

But back to the subject… I really do recommend investing in a nice pro lens before upgrading the body cause lenses > bodies. You can shoot with a $6k lens + cheap $500 DSLR and get amazing results but you can't with a $6k body + $200 lens. Plus lenses have cooler features 😛

                                      Anyways, some from me:

                                      Vans

                                      Adidas

                                      Grady

Not intending to derail here, and I would agree generally re:investing in nice lenses over investing in bodies, but you can really get amazing results with cheap equipment in the right hands. Hell look at the stuff skilled people get using a $25 holga with a plastic lens and scale focus. Just get something you enjoy using and carry it and shoot.
