I'm a big fan of the Seiko 5 watches, although the glass isn't the best. Still here's my newest (about 6 months):

And my oldest (about 25 years):

And I've just paid the pre-order deposit on this, which I'm very excited about:

Cheers Seul, it was the first 'proper' watch I owned (I was about 14). It's on the latest of a series of new straps, and still keeps really, really, good time. It's never been serviced either. I'm currently trying to find someone who can replace the hardex face with sapphire crystal, after which I think it will live forever!

I've only really just been reading up on the Dagaz watches over the past month, and I've been really impressed over all with what they're doing. Plus, I can't really afford a Rolex or Omega at the moment, and this looks more fun than the SK007. When the pre-order update hit their site last week I weakened. He's only doing 50 though, this time around, so I thought it was worth it. Bad news is, it won't be ready until about May 2012!

I know! That article's why I went and got the new leather strap for my old one. It's not Alligator or anything, it's a Hirsch Duke I think, but it's very good.

I tracked the watch in their article down here:

                  http://www.chronograph.com/store/mli_viewItem.asp?idproduct=1111

No affiliation to any of these sites or brands by the way, although I have bought from Chronograph and their service is excellent.

Hehe I went with a Hirsch to replace my 'original' R. Weil bracelet as well… 39 € instead of 129... And the salesman says Weil uses Hirsch bands and just stamps them...  😢

Been lusting after a simpler watch for a while now, so I just ordered this:

Not sure if I can pull off a 37 mm watch (especially when I'm usually wearing my 46/17mm Benarus Sea Devil hockey puck) but I wanted something more understated for a change. And if it does work for me I'll probably upgrade to this

Japan Domestic market only with a nicer movement than the 7s26 in the 5:s and sapphire crystal. Not too much money that either but not worth risking if the size is too small after all.

So I'll give it a go and if I don't like it it's only cost me 88 € and I have a dress watch.. Not crazy about the hands on the 5 or the day/date (prefer date only) but they're not that bad. And for the price you can't complain. I've had a Seiko diver with the 7s26 movement and it was really dependable even though not the most accurate but I'm not that picky on accuracy if it's within say +/-30 seconds per day for a budget automatic watch.

If I had the $$ I'd get a Rolex Datejust II (42 mm) but then again if I had that kinda money the Explorer II might be a stronger contender…

                        AIAN HA-TO!

Hi Jii - The first looks like a good solid watch and I love the second one - very classy! I alternate between big and small watches all the time. I always think the small watches are going to look/feel to small after wearing a divers watch or something similar, but I actually find them very comfortable and a nice change - especially with smart/dress shirts!

Thanks for the reassurance. Yeah that second one is a Seiko SARB033 and it costs less than 500$ and from what I've read on the internet it's extremely good value for money. I'm actually kind of hoping that I'll feel comfortable with the size because I think it's a beautiful watch.

I wear a 42mm divers a lot, and I've got a 44mm dress watch, but I love my Seiko 5 38mm and my grandfathers old Omega which is pretty small. Smaller are also less annoying in the winter when layering shirts and jumpers, in my experience. You could swap out the stainless steel bracelet on that Seiko 5 as well for a nice leather one if you fancy a more casual look.

The Seiko SARB033 looks very nice, I might have to have a closer look myself!

Got this today, some first impressions:

Boy is it small. At first I thought it's definitely too small for me but after wearing it I'm slowly getting used to it. Still on the fence anyway, I do think that 40-41 mm would feel better proportionwise. Anyhow, with the lack in size comes the lack in weight which feels quite nice for a change. The watch looks very nice in the flesh, the dial looks like it's made of brushed aluminium (whitish hue but still more silvery than white) and a nicely polished case. The bracelet feels a bit flimsy (which was expected) but pretty comfortable, but sadly it's brushed so there's quite a contrast between the case and the bracelet. No biggie though for this money.

I have to say that my feelings are more positive than negative for the moment. Very nice value for money. I guess I'll wear it for some time and then decide about the size. I'll definitely keep the watch as a dress watch if it doesn't turn out to be an everyday item.

Give it some wear, remember your test driving it for that other, much nicer watch. I think after a while you'll find the size isn't as important as the general asthetic, and feel of the watch. Your old watch will feel like a monster when you swap back!
