    • RE: Where does everyone live?

Hi all, guess I'm here for the same reason everyone else is – a delightful personal message from Giles! But yeah, if I'm going to be able to get eyes on the marketplace, I need to put the effort in.

I'm up in Edinburgh, Scotland. Currently pretty dreich up here. Bring on Spring! I'm actually one of those weird people that look forward to January and February, the gradually lightening mornings. I find the -ber months of the year the most depressing – the fag-end of the year… I guess that's why Hogmanay's such a big deal up here ¯_(ツ)_/¯ it's dark AF in Winter!

      Anyway, greetings, everyone.

Ditto what Turnstyle said; was beginning to second guess my memory of there ever having been a marketplace on the forum…

Good shout on the new rules though. Will definitely prompt more engagement from long-time lurkers/fewer-posters (see what I'm doing here?) 🙂

Brilliant, thanks, Giles, that was all the encouragement I needed, and I see there's three 36s left too, nice one!

In terms of breaking in the 25oz, are we talking mostly full range of mobility but with pinching here and there? Or 'I need a grabber to pick things up off the floor' territory?

TL;DR – Should I go for a 36 waist in the 777-XHS, because that’s what I have (and really enjoy) in the 777S-21?
      —
Hi all, I’ve been hungrily reading up on this cut in this cloth.

After a couple of happy years with a pair of double indigo 666s, this summer I discovered that the 777 is actually ‘my fit’, and the 21oz is precisely what everyone ’round here, and further abroad, assure me it would be, i.e. wonderful (such drapes, so comfort).

However, like many who’ve trod this path before me, I’m still in thrall to the Cult of Heavy, and so am keen to try my hand (and test my legs) with the XHS, not least so I can start a rotation and help my denim last longer.

My question is this: given the differences between the 210z and the XHS, do I need to factor in different considerations when sizing?

I haven’t washed the 21oz yet, and the amount of stretch has mildly surprised me (I’m expecting any normal post-wash shrinkage to stretch back out)(or should I? I guess I’ll discover in due course).

And so in regard to the XHS, what are the ins and outs I should consider? Is it considered to be the standard ‘will shrink a bit, but will stretch back out where under pressure’?

Or is it more along the lines of ‘will shrink, and remain more or less shrunk’d’, so size up?

I’m also going in with my eyes open in regard to the ‘challenge’ of bending 25oz denim to my will – does the slim cut up the ante in this regard?!

I appreciate there’s an above average chance that this topic has been covered elsewhere (and how tedious seeing the same questions appear is), so I’ll be happy with simple answers.

      Cheers!

    • RE: IH-666SII - 18oz Indigo/Indigo Slim Cut Jean

Oh the joys of this time of year…

Hit the deck after encountering some black ice on the way to work last week. It was the keys wot did it (I wear them on my belt loop, tucked into back pocket), but it's still worth it, cycling in my IHs, as they're windproof, look totally rad, and (I like to think) an appropriate counterpoint to the sea of lycra that washes up to surround me at the traffic lights 🙂

On the plus side, it does give me a tangible excuse to start nosing around for my next pair (those 888s look v appealing)…

Any thoughts on whether repairs/darn are necessary? Don't really want a wee hole to grow into a bigger one, if I can help it. Needless to say, the bomb-proof denim is only really punctured in two places [the two obvious, bigger holes you see] and the pocket lining in only one of those).

Either way I like that they've earned their first proper 'smite'!

    • RE: Red Wing Shoes

Thanks, dude, I'll check them out too. Vibram Academy London were very helpful – if I can't find a more accommodating cobbler up here (Scotland), I may well be sending them south/across the North Sea… What a palaver.

Good question – however I neglected to mention, apologies, that I'm a long way from a proper RW shop (I'm in Edinburgh, UK – nearest I believe is in London, and they just point you to the afore-mentioned cobbler somewhere else down in the southern UK, who quoted me ~£100).

But you're right, perhaps I should ask after their other soles, the non-RW ones may well be cheaper…

    • RE: Red Wing Shoes

Hi guys, quick question re getting my Red Wing 3141 Chukkas resoled:

I'm after a commando sole and the only place locally that'll do them is Timpson's… I'm not super-convinced they'll do a great job (google is not their friend in this regard); does anyone have any experience of sending their treasured comfy foot gloves to a Vibram resoler in the UK?

I could send them to the RW-approved cobbler, but they only offer RW soles, it would appear.

      Any thoughts?

    • RE: Random questions to which you seek an answer

I was in the Edinburgh Apple Store a while back and spotted a familiar pair of arcuates on this gentleman's arse. This was the first pair of IHs I'd ever seen in the real (I only bought my own first ever pair last week) and was keen to get a closer look, so I had to move and pretend to be interested in whatever product was on the tables behind him as he wandered around the store, all the while slyly scoping his threads…

And as if that isn't sad enough, I spotted him again outside and actually tailed him for a bit, trying to guess the cut and denim (tbh I could have stopped and asked, I'm sure the chap would've been happy to oblige, but you know, the thrill of the chase etc.).

Oh god, what have I become?

Then tonight I shall get my soak on – thanks, Giles!

And, yes, I see now – a muddy/gritty grinding paste would be perfect for destroying the tongue – thanks, again.

      A most useful thread…

Hi everyone; 'Random questions…' seems like the most appropriate place to ask this:

On Wesco lace-up boots, what's origin/function of the fanned leather 'tassle' one sees emerging from beneath the laces? Any relation to the similar-looking things one sees on old-fashioned golf shoes?

Actually, while I'm here, one more: has anyone ever had any bad experiences accidentally dyeing bath enamel by soaking your new strides? I've recently purchased a pair of indigo/indigo 666s, but I'm staying with my sister-in-law for a few weeks and desperate though I am to soak 'em and get on my way, I'm equally keen not redecorate her lovely bathtub… I appreciate I could just use a big bucket or something, but to my mind it just doesn't have the same romance…

    • RE: IH-666S-21 - 21oz Selvedge Denim Slim Straight Cut Jeans - Indigo

Thanks for input, guys, I'm super grateful!

Yeah, having scoured the forums I gathered the 21oz is the most 'forgiving' of IH's denims. My plan is this: I'm calculating that a little bit of give might bring them into line with the original fit of my 101Zs, when I felt I was strutting around like a rockstar (whereas they now feel the roadie's).

Right, I shall do just that, email for the measurements of the last pair (at time of writing) of 34s, yikes…

      Again, much obliged, cheers!

    • RE: IH-666S-21 - 21oz Selvedge Denim Slim Straight Cut Jeans - Indigo

Hi guys, just a quick question/favour to ask about these: does anyone have any post-wear measurements for a tag size 34? I'm keen to pull the trigger, but the thigh is giving me pause for thought… (my current go-to pair's thighs, some 19oz Lee101Zs, have stretched out to 13", and I reckon I might be able to reclaim an inch with the 666 fit...)

Any help (and advice) gratefully received!

    • RE: Lee 101

(Oops, I think I should have posted my first ever post (http://www.ironheart.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=2.msg502638#msg502638) here instead…)

Hi guys, hope you don’t mind me resurrecting this topic: I’m looking to get my first pair of IHs, currently sporting a pair of the 101Z 19oz mentioned above.

To anyone with experience of both the 101Z fit, and the 634/666 fits: I was wondering whether you had any input as to what might be the closest IH fit to said Lees? Bearing in mind: my 101s have loosened considerably over the nine months I’ve had them, and I’d quite like a final fit that echoes the feeling they had when they were new, post-first-soak…

Here are the current measurements of the (tagged 34) 101Z
(copied-pasted from first post mentioned above):

Waist: 37 (there’s definitely some spare room in there!)
      Front rise: 11.75
Rear rise: 16.5 (happy to shave an inch here)
      Hem: 8.3
      Thigh: 13
Knee: 9.5 (oh boy, the knee-bags drove me CRAZY, I was so frustrated)
Inseam: 31.5 (I was surprised how much was lost in the length; this is too short (I’m 6’2”), I like to cuff, so inseam of next pair not a prob)

I’m drawn to the 666S-21 and the 666SII (for the smart cuffs)…

      Again, any input greatly welcomed!

    • RE: Introduce Yourself Here

      Hi everyone, long-time-lurker, first-time-poster/registerer here.

Have finally saved up enough in my running away PayPal account from selling sundry bits and bobs and am in now a position to pull the trigger on my first pair of Iron Hearts – hallelujah!

My current (read: only) go-to denim is a pair of 19oz Lee101Z that I snagged a while back. I’m really enjoying giving them a beating, but it occurs to me that I really ought to have a second pair (of decent jeans) so I can rotate/prolong lifespans…

The current measurements of the Lees suggest the closest match, fit-wise, would be something from the 634 family. However, I do find that the 101Zs have loosened up considerably (tag size was 34; real size (IH-method-measured) now is c37”…), and I really miss the fit and feeling of the Lees in their early days. They had a great fitted feel to them – which then naturally leads me to be inclined towards the fit of the 666 family (incidentally, the 21oz in both). And no, unfortunately I neglected to measure them pre-soak/wear 😕

Does anyone else on the forum have any experience of the 101Z cut? Would be very interested to compare experiences.

      Current stats of the Lees:

      • Waist: 37 (there’s definitely some spare room in there!)
        Front rise: 11.75
Rear rise: 16.5 (happy to shave an inch here)
        Hem: 8.3
        Thigh: 13
Knee: 9.5 (oh boy, the knee-bags drove me CRAZY, I was so frustrated)
Inseam: 31.5 (I was surprised how much was lost in the length (I believe they’d have been 34” originally (again, like a noob, I didn’t measure pre-soak)))

From the specs of the 666S-21, I’d imagine the 34-tagged pairs are going to be the size and fit I’m after, with the 35-measured waist giving way in time to a more friendly 36-odd. It’s the thigh that I need to keep an eye on, right?

And to throw a spanner in the works, I’m also eyeing up the 666SII too… (which, by all accounts, are shrinker-stretchers, as opposed to just-stretchers).

Anyway, I’ve taken up enough of the forum with my first post. Any thoughts and suggestions gratefully received. And to be honest, with the phenomenal Iron Heart sizing/returns deal, I can’t really go far wrong, eh?

      ✌️
