    • RE: IHJ-86-BLK - 14oz Selvedge Denim Modified Type III Jacket - Black/Black

I'm late to the party on this one but managed to find this in stock in L size at Rivet & Hide, most places seemed to be low on stock at this point. Anyways posting to share my fit and see what the experts think.

I was a little worried it was going to run a bit short in the chest. It's a little snug across the chest when buttoned, but the fabric is not too unforgiving and overall feels quite comfortable. I can still button up the jacket with a heavy flannel underneath and it's not uncomfortable, just enough room, and with a tshirt there's plenty of wiggle room. It seems like length to waist is about right (sits just below jeans waist line), and arm length is bang on (maybe a cm too long, but perfectly fine). Sizing up would have certainly meant the arms would be too long, so I reckon this fit is exactly right from the available sizes in this jacket.

Please excuse my pairing with cheap stretch jeans, I'm workin' on it 🙂

Also Ross from Rivet & Hide did me a solid and measured this before sending out, which confirmed it ran slightly bigger than their listed chest measurement and gave hope that I'd squeeze in. I've had great experience with R&H and IHUK so far, top work.

I think you can see it runs a little snug across the body / chest when buttoned up, though sizing up would probably be too big I reckon. Certainly too long in the arms. Probably better to be slightly snug than baggy. What do the denim sages think?

    • RE: IH-8301S - SBG "Super Black Fade-To-Gray" Denim - Slim Cut
      • When considering inseam length for hemming how much inseam shrinkage should we generally allow for? (may vary by fabric)

      • Is hemming unworn/unwashed preferred, or is it better to wear/wash prior to hemming?

      • Does vertical shrinkage also affect the rise of jeans, or is it more noticeable on the inseam?

I was wondering how much shrinkage to allow for in the inseam in some SBG 8301's that I'll send in to IHUK for hemming soon. And maybe hemming is a common enough question to warrant a FAQ. SelfEdges website says to expect .5in shrink in the inseam, I assume this is the same sanforized SBG fabric in other IHUK jeans, and IHUK details suggest minimal shrinkage. I'm sure people here have experience with this to comment how much shrink to expect and any other considerations.

My preference would be to send them in unworn / unwashed, since they're stupid long for me to wear without hemming first.

Here are the jeans in question on SE site:
      https://www.selfedge.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=969

It seems like .5 inch shrink would be too small to noticeably affect the length, especially if wearing boots. So I'm probably overthinking it. But as they say, measure twice cut once.

Aside from any shrinkage considerations finding the right inseam length seems fairly common sense. Make sure you wear the pants at the waist level you normally would, and make sure the inseam length is long enough to be comfortable for both standing straight, and crouching down on your knees / sitting down. And to wear the shoes you would normally wear. Ideally finding the best balance of not riding up too far showing your ankles if you crouch or sit, while also not pooling on top of your shoes when relaxed.

It arrived, and it fits  🙂

you definitely wore it better though, broader shoulders, and that indigo shirt goes nicely. Need to get myself a tee with a bit more blue in it, this was the closest I have.

*mental note, photos next to a standing desk makes me look like a midget  😃 to be fair I'm only 5′ 7″ so not that far off  ::)
