    • RE: Looking to interview IronHearters in Bay Area/Montral/Toronto/Ottawa/New York

      @Megatron1505:

      Could you do the interviews via email or Skype? I've done interviews with people on the other side of the world which have turned out pretty well, or is it something which is geographically important?

      Sorry only saw this.  Skype is definitely a possibility, I'll be in touch.

      In the meantime, if anyone is around New York (City) this weekend (Friday 28th August to Sunday 30th August) and up for being interviewed, please get in touch.

    • RE: New York, NY (USA)

      Hi,

      Would any New York IH members be interested in being interviewed about raw denim and online forums?  If so, I'll be in NY from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th.

      More information on the research project in this thread http://www.ironheart.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=7155.msg392695#msg392695.

      I've already met up with a number of SF and Toronto members who can vouch for me.

      Please PM or e-mail (nweiner@yorku.ca) if interested.

      Cheers,

      Nat

      Unfortunately I'm not able to get anywhere else on the West Coast this year much as I'd love too.  I may be able to get a research grant for next year though.

      I should also mention that I'm in the UK 20th June to 12th July… mostly in London but also Leeds and rural Wales.  As I'm a bit of a railfan I'm always happy to travel places.  Am I right in thinking your down Porstmouth way Giles?

    • Looking to interview IronHearters in Bay Area/Montral/Toronto/Ottawa/New York

      Hi everyone,

      I posted about this in the San Francisco thread but Gwilling suggested it might be worth posting here too.  Basically I'm researching online clothing fora and I would love to interview guys that post (or lurk) on here about the denim/heritage/workwear/Japanese side of things.  I'm based in Toronto but I'll be in the Bay Area from the 13th to the 20th and I get the sense  that quite a few people on here are based thereabouts.  I'll also be in Montreal, Ottawa and New York throughout the year.

      These interviews are just 60 minute open-ended conversations about clothes and the internet, they're not very demanding and I'll travel to wherever is convenient for you.  I've got a research budget so I can offer a $50 honorarium for your time.  This is scholarly research which means that its not affiliated with any kind of store, brand or market research firm.  It also means that your identity will be kept anonymous when the research is published.

      Please PM or e-mail me (nweiner@yorku.ca) if you're interested in participating.

      I've already interviewed a bunch of folks on a British forum, and while its a different sort of forum you can see from over there that I'm genuine:

      If you've seen me posting on some of the other forums you must be sick of hearing from me by now and I promise this is my last posting on the subject.

      Thanks!

    • RE: Sugar Cane

      Thanks sugar mountain - those look ideal and like you said, the proportions do look a lot like the iconic Great Escape 'baseball' photo.  I'm going to go with 34, which is my actual non-vanity size.

      *And also sorry for the off-topic post, this was the only thread I could find with discussion of the Toys McCoys chinos.

      @Sugar:

      I wear a size 32 in the McQueen chinos: one size up from my usual. The 31 did button up but they were tight and I need a little more room to be able to wear the chinos for work with an oxford shirt tucked in.

      Sorry to revive this is old thread but I've got a family member going to Japan and I'm going to try to have them pick me up a pair of the McQueen chinos as they seem to have the perfect combination of button-fly, high rise and slimmish leg that I'm after.  Are these measurements accurate do you think?  They appear to have a slightly wider leg opening than what McQueen wears in 'The Great Escape'

    • RE: Thorogood

      Does anyone own a pair of the insulated wedge boots?  There are fantastic, really warm winter boots for the terrible climate where I live (Toronto).  However they have some weird silicon treatment and apparently can only be treated with nikwax?  Nikwax waterproofs but doesn't have any pigment and I think that after two hard winters, these boots could do with some oil that will restore colour in the scuffs.  I'm wondering if I can use mink oil (which is what I use on my thorogood mocs)….

    • RE: San Francisco, CA (USA)

      Hi,

      Sorry for coming on here out of the blue, but I'm going to be in San Francisco Feb 13th to Feb 19th and was wondering if anyone on here would be willing to be interviewed about their interests in Japanese denim and use of clothing fora.  The interview would  just be an open-ended conversation in the location of your choosing, it would only take about an hour, your identity will be kept anonymous and I can compensate you for your time with a $50 honorarium.  I know this sounds a bit odd and spammy but its part of a wider research project on online menswear culture.

      I've already interviewed a bunch of folks on a British forum, and while its a different sort of forum you can see from over there that I'm genuine:
      https://www.fuk.co.uk/threads/looking-to-interview-fuk-users-london/1/

      While my own tastes veer more towards the Ivy Look, I'm partial to some more entry-level heritage stuff like LVC, Lee 101, Thorogood Boots and have spent my fair share of time reading clothing forums so I'm not a total outsider.

      If anyone on here could help me out that would be massively appreciated!  Please PM or email nweiner@yorku.ca
