    • RE: IH-777S-SLB - 16oz Slubby Selvedge Denim Slim Tapered Cut Jeans - Indigo

My first post here. I am new to Selvedge Denim.

Recently ordered a pair of NF online that arrived and were too small. Rather than just send back and forth decided to take a 2-1/2 hr drive to Chicago, MildBlend, and try on a few different styles, sizes and brands to figure out what fits me the best. No real options for buying selvedge Denim products except online and the returns are a hassle.

I was looking to get fitted in NF and IH. I did find my style and size in both manufacturers.

I walked out of the store with a 2 pairs of NF denims, 20 oz. and 16 oz., and a mission to find a pair of the IH slubby's in my style and size. The IH 777S style fits me the best.
Today I found a pair on line and pulled the trigger, IH 777S-Slub 36.

The NF and IH seem to fit well but I am most stoked about the IH and the forum here. The prospect of having a forum to share experiences, wear jeans that fit well and will form to my shape is very appealing to me.

Thanks to all here that are sharing their passion.

Now to figure out what to do about break in and washing.....

    • RE: IHSH-357-IND - 5oz Dobby Cloth Western Shirt - Indigo

My shirt came today and I am posting photos as promised. This is an XXL and it fits pretty well. Perhaps just a smidge snug. It does not feel tight. The sleeves are a little longer than I like but they will work.

The color and the texture of this shirt is really interesting in a very nice way.

If I wash this in cold water, will it shrink?
I plan on keeping it as I am continuing to lose weight and improve my tone.
3 hours a week at the gym with a trainer will do that; so glad I got a membership.

      Thanks for the tip @T4920.
I am wearing the 20 oz now and will soak and wash them this evening. They have a 2% stretch material in the denim and fit pretty snug in all the right places. I am ok with the shrinking a bit if the waist will stay or stretch back to the current size.

Was just notified that my IH's have shipped. 🙂

BTW, I am no youngster so this is a bit of an adventure for me to explore selvedge denim. I really appreciate high quality products that improve with age.

Kinda like me.......at least that is what my wife says.

Thank you all for your comments!
Today the mailman was good to me. My IH777S-SLB 36 16 oz, Slubbys arrived. They fit nearly perfect and are super comfortable. I went from zero pairs of selvedge to (3), 2 NF and 1 IH in less than 5 days. Yes, the IH feel and fit better than the NF. They are comfy right out of the box, wow. Looks like limited break in!

So, now where my travels take me, I will be on the look out for IH stores to confirm my size/fit so I can buy new special releases online as I am several hours away from any BM store.

This community is awesome and I really appreciate the responses to my post.
I will definitely be investing in some more IH Jeans.

My only regret is that it took me this long to discover them.

I think I will now take a bath in my jeans.

    • RE: IH-777S-21 - 21oz Selvedge Denim Slim Tapered Jeans - Indigo

Hey, I found a pair of 35's at Withered Figs and ordered them. Got them today and they fit great. The top block is snug, knees and calves fine, thighs are a little loose maybe.

I am looking forward to breaking these in. This selvedge denim is very intriguing to me. I am brand new to selvedge and in the past month have gone from 0 to 5 pairs. All different and all comfy/unique in their own way. The IH 777S fit me the best and I have the slubby's and now the 21 oz. I have my eye on the 777N and hope to snag a pair of those later this summer when they restock. Buying over the internet is a bit challenging until you get your size/dimensions worked out.

I am beginning to get what this Selvedge is all about. Most of my time is spent in the office as a construction manager and business developer. My denim will never see the kind of use that some of you put yours through. I do expect these jeans to become more comfortable with age and last a long time.

I'll post some photos later. I do appreciate the friendly atmosphere here on the forum.
So much denim, so little time.

I am new to selvedge and am trying to understand a few things. I bought my first properly fitting pair(s), 14 oz & 20 oz, on Saturday and am enjoying the fit and break in. I also ordered a pair of IH's Sunday. I am totally stoked and beginning to see the appeal. For one, I really like things that improve with age, are durable and timeless. The initial cost can be high but if the value is there, I totally get it. My clothes tend to last a long time including my shoes and boots so the investment can be worth it.

There are a couple of things that puzzle me. I mean this in all respect and solicit your comments and perspective.

      1. I see lots of people buying premium selvedge, focusing on fades and wearing through the jeans in just a couple years, blow outs, rips etc. I have a hard time getting my head around buying premium selvedge and destroying them in just a year or two. Is this mainline Denim head thinking or a small percentage of selvedge owners?

      2. What is the difference between so called entry level selvedge, say N&F or unbranded vs premium selvedge, say IH? In some cases the the premium selvedge may be twice the cost of the entry level. Just curious here as I presume you could make a similar statement about comparing a Seiko to a Rolex. I do understand Brand value. It is fairly well know that Rolex's don't keep great time.

I am learning about the various combinations of denim components, dyes, patterns, thread thicknesses and consistencies, how these are combined and the wear and fade patterns they create. It is fascinating, there are so many possibilities and unique runs of patterns may never be available again. Very cool, so why try to wear the jean out and destroy them in the process when they literally can not be replaced? I would think that you would want to get to the fade and then protect the product. Again, is this mainstream or a minority?

I appreciate your insights as I learn more about the world of selvedge.
      Thanks
