That's fair enough Twism. I'm sure you've got his best interests at heart but sometimes a fathers judgement can get a bit clouded about what their son wants and needs. No disrespect to you of course.

That bike may get done one day but it wont be by me and him, he doesn't even know who I am now.

      @twism_23:

Harley has done a great job with their Sportster models. The 48, The 72 and 883 Iron are all really nice retro looking bikes. I am planning on customizing an 883 in the next year as a project to keep me busy during the off season. While sportsters are a little small for me, I really like the look and they are great for the city. My son would love one, but I told him he can be like me and wait until he's in his 40's and has grown kids before getting a bike!

You need to get him a bike pronto if he's old enough and wants one. To long to wait till 40's. When I came home from getting my license my dad surprised me with a brand new commando. That same bike today is probably my main rider.
There's something special when a father and son share a love for bikes.
We got this one to do together a few years ago but he got too old and I just cant get enough enthusiasm going to do it on my own. Maybe oneday.

Forty eight… that's a sportster model isn't it. It actually looks pretty nice. I went off new bikes many years ago but this one looks like it's based on old school Harleys.
I actually might go and take a look at that bike but it wouldn't surprise me if its not available here. I gotta get something with an electric start, my main rider still gotta be kick started and my knee doesnt like it sometimes. Not really a fan of the sports bikes with all the crap on them but this bike looks good.

What is that Harley. I'm not really up on the latest model Harleys. That one looks not too bad though, is it some type of sporty model ?

Sam Bears was an unbelievable shop. Rumored to have not been painted or anything for a long long long time and it looked it. It was like stepping back in time… I just love that sort of thing. If you're interested google it and there's a heap of pics inside before it shut down.

Snowy... I just might have to do mail order but I wouldn't mind looking at the 555's that Giles mentioned. They actually don't look too bad but I just don't want tight upstairs and my crack hanging out at the back when bent over that's all. Down the legs though they look OK and I'm pretty skinny these days down the thighs and calves. I'm just an old codger that wont change his ways that easily I think. My family reckons I'm stuck in the 70's but I feel I'm in slowly edging my way towards 1980.
All part of my " modernization " ay  Seul.

Made a few inquiries today and "corlection store " will have IH denim in the next few weeks. So will be able to try some on to see the fit. Not sure which cuts they will have but we"ll see.

Graeme… address for Corlection already mentioned is correct. 20 Russell Pl Melbourne.
Up There Store looks alright but they don't sell iron heart. I've been wearing Lee and Levis' for 43 years now.I always got them from Sam Bears in Russell St. What an institution that place was as you probably already know. Sadly they shut their doors last year and I didn't even know until a few months ago.

Anyway I'm up for a bit of " modernization " so looking forward to trying some IH on. As a gift recently I got a pair of these jeans called " strange guys" I think they're called. My daughter got em for me and you have to get em real tight cause they stretch a lot apparently. Not a fan...the twins just don't like em, and when I bend over and then stand up there's a big gather of loose denim at the bottom of my arse.. just like a babys nappy full of shit. Not a look I care for. I'm only gonna put em on for a bit when my daughter visits.
I'm gonna give these IH 's a look though but if they don't pan out I'll probably go back to the Levis I think.

just saw the pictorial guide to the different cuts.

Giles …. Do you know a place in Melbourne that I could try some of these on to get a feel for the styles ?

      Thanks for the welcome Giles.

I'm really liking the look of these iron hearts. If I went and got the type of jean i normally get …it would be the "vintage Levis" probably 1947 501 rigid.

Anyone care to suggest which cut iron heart  would be similar to that ?

      Cheers All

    • RE: Where does everyone live?

      Hello all,

Johnathon here from Melbourne Aus. Got my first good denim jeans in 1972. I can still remember it well, everyone thought I was crazy spending that much on a pair of jeans. As a kid I really loved those jeans. Lasted me for years and years they did, they were well worth it. Been wearing good denim jeans ever since, even right through a period a fair while ago where everyone was telling me it's nerdy to wear jeans… there outta fashion and all that BS they said. Never worried me, just kept going with the same old stuff.

I'm sixty now and for the first time thinking I'm gonna deviate from my regular brand. Looking around at what's about and it's amazing really. The variety and styles these days.

Looking at some Iron Hearts and just trying to get a handle on all the cuts and styles

      Cheers  Johnathon
