Got this a week ago, and it's an absolute hoot to ride. I can't believe how well balanced it is and I've sure missed the speed carrying capability of a 29er. So happy!

I've got an enduro race coming up in a week (the most equipment punishing one of the season :)) and I'll do that one with the Capra but after that I'll put it up for sale and I'll do the rest of the races this season on the Instinct. I'll probably have to be a bit more careful with line choices but since I'm racing just for fun I don't mind.

      Just ordered this beaut:

      Rocky Mountain 2018 Instinct C70

Still love the Capra (just got a coil shock for it) but after 2 years of use I'm even more convinced that a mid-travel 29er is the kind of bike that works best for me and the type of riding I do (or at least 95% of it). Tried a mate's carbon YT Jeffsy and it felt so nice and light that it got me all fired up for a new bike. Wanted something with a bit more reach than the Jeffsy has and it came down to the Norco Sight or the Instinct. And since the latter looks nicer and I got to test ride one that's what I'm getting. The sad part is that it won't be delivered until July so it's going to be a long wait..

Gonna race the Capra in our national enduro series this year (my third season) and after that I'll decide if I want to sell it or keep it for enduro racing and bike park duty.

Had to sell all my IH shirts a few years ago due to weight loss. Today I popped by my local IH dealer after lunch just for fun, tried this one on and you all can guess what happened next  😉 It just felt too good not to buy it. Also wearing my almost 7 year old 634s'.

    • RE: Oak Street Bootmakers

I just received a pair of those same bluchers. Seem really nice for the price paid (sale) and since I've had no problems with my trench boots I feel quite confident about these too. Was a bit of a gamble on the size since I'm usually somewhere between a 13 and a 12 and my trench boots in 13 are quite roomy even though I wear them with a thick sock. I ordered a 12 in the PTB and was quite certain they'd be too small but they feel nice and snug with a medium thickness sock so I guess they'll be perfect with a thin summer sock since these will be summer shoes for me (leather sole and all).

Stitching is nice and uniform and pretty much flawless otherwise too on quick inspection.

      So jelly!

Bike update. Mondraker was all sold out of carbon Dunes in my size so bit the bullet and ordered one of these:

In a totally different league but still a very very nice bike for the money. Point it downhill at let loose. Surprisingly nice to pedal uphill too! The Yari seems to be a really good fork too based on the little time I've spent on it, can't find anything yet that would justify upgrading to a Pike.

Also spent a week in Spain training for the upcoming race season with my team. Had good luck with the weather and got some proper tan lines to cultivate 🙂

Nice Steelfish! That blue dial is so beautiful. Used to have a cream dial one myself.

    • RE: Bicycles

Just placed an order for a Mondraker Dune R Carbon. Wanted something a bit more aggressive than the Rumblefish for the upcoming season, planning to do a few enduro races this summer. Have to wait until march to get it though 😞

Originally I was planning to upgrade the frame only but it seems longer travel 29ers are phasing out and 27,5" seems to be taking over pretty much everything. Would have needed to swap the fork too for all the available options so decided a new bike would end up more cost effective even if I sell off the old one cheaply.

Wanted something that can cover all my mtb needs, trailriding, bike parks and enduro races and according to the reviews the Dune might be the ticket. Probably not as good a climber as the Trek but loads more fun on the way down. Looked at the YT Capra and the Devinci Spartan too but decided to buy locally. The same friend who sold me my Treks (and my Ellsworths way back) imports Mondraker too so I know I get backup in case there's problems. A few friends of mine ride aluminum Dunes and I've had the chance to test ride so I pretty much know what I'm getting into. I was way too cramped on the L sized one so going for the gargantuan (on paper) XL. Geo should be pretty spot on for me. I'll switch the dropper post for a Race Face one because the Reverb sucks in freezing temps but otherwise I'll go with the stock build. Haven't had Avid brakes in a long time but I'll give them a chance and switch them out if I don't like them. Probably the wheels too if they give me grief.

That Nicolai does look interesting though, hope it'll be a lot of fun!

    • RE: IH-555S-BLK - 21oz Black Selvedge Slim

Yeah I've lost quite a bit of weight due to cycling this year (well last year actually haha). Had to sell each and every one of my IH shirt because of that but I guess that's a positive problem.

    • RE: IH-555S-BLK - 21oz Black Selvedge Slim

Snagged these tag 34:s in the sale and just got to try them on. Pretty much exactly what i wanted, slim but not uncomfortable. Waist is spot on (35,8"), top block feels good, thighs are a bit tight but these will easily stretch the needed little bit. Will probably sit perfectly when softened up. I think I'll keep these!

Love the black 21oz denim too!

@madmonday the 777:s (21 oz) are in the comparison chart but no 36 in stock and rise is wayyyy low. Besides I've already experienced that denim..

Big unit sounded quite nice actually  😘

    • RE: IH-555N - 17oz Selvedge Denim Super Slim Jeans - Natural Indigo

      Ok, so here's the deal:
For my next pair I'd optimally like something like my 666s but with a 35,5"-36" waist and a bit slimmer in the knees and the hem and with a bit less of space in the top block. I've narrowed it all down to these and in comparison to the measurements on my 666:s they seem to fit the bill perfectly. I'd like a bit of a lower rise but maybe it's the oversized waist of the 666:s that's bugging me and makes the top block feel too loose. Initially I didn't even look in the 555 direction because of the "super-duper-slim"-moniker but these don't seem that different. Anything I'm missing or could these be it?

E:666s measurements are actual and directly after being washed. Worn on and off for three years. Waist is way too loose for me (never shrunk down to tag size). My 634s have the perfect actual waist for me at 35,5". Even though I always wear a belt I don't like the belt to be the one keeping my pants up 🙂

These will shrink about 0,5" in the waist and stretch out if needed and the hem will shrink by an inch. Shouldn't be a problem either re hem width even if I hem them an inch or so shorter.

In addition very tempted by the organic cotton/natural indigo thing.

I've checked pretty much all of the brands but very hard to find something with a thigh-to-hem-ratio like these.

Well I like to wear thick socks and couldn't go any smaller in the OSBs if that's helpful. Probably couldn't comfortably use the same socks in the chukkas so I'd say the size difference is very very small. With this in mind I'd take the same size as the chukkas. Still havent worn my trench boots more than 15 times so probably haven't stretched out to their final size, but I did walk 6 km in them the first time I wore them without any trouble. Hope this helps!

    • RE: Pure Blue Japan (PBJ)

Window-shopping around for my next pair of jeans since I've retired my 634s' (21 oz) and my 666s' (18 oz) are already in the phase of needing repairs twice a year. Just like shoes, jeans seem to get the most comfy when they start to fall apart :(.

Anyway, looking for something just like the 666s but with a smaller waist (36ish) and if possible with a bit smaller hem width. A bit less rear rise would be welcome too. As a cyclist thighs need to be around 12,5 when stretched out so can't go full slim. The PBJ XX013 seems to be quite close to what I'm looking for in a raw 36" waist, does anybody have some info in comparison to the 666s? The slubbiness and character is quite attractive too and from what I've gathered the 14oz is quite stretchy. Could consider the 18 oz ones too, but have to do some more research on them before making up my mind.

I only have the 3140 Chukka so can't generalize but I think the trench boots are very much the same size as them. I have a US13 in both and the only difference in fit I can feel is a bit more width in the toe box. Wore them today again, jeans are 666s 🙂

    • RE: Japan - December/January

Just came back from Kyoto, spent two weeks there. Visited a third wave coffee shop company called Arabica quite a lot, the café in Higashiyama was nicer than the one in Arashiyama but got really crowded in the afternoons. They had a temporary sales stand on the corner of Shijo and Teramachi dori too (in front of Fuji daimaru) but I think they closed it already but there was talk about it returning for good but can't remember when. There were quite a few good stores that had shoes too on Teramachi dori (Loftman had four stores along the street) and there was one (forgot the name) that carried loads of quality shoes (Alden, Crockett & Jones, Tricker's), also on Teramachi dori (between Sanjo and Shijo dori).

    • RE: DOUBLE INDIGO 666 WORLD TOUR

Woohoo! Would like to change my turn to an earlier one if possible since jan-feb I'm stuck in the office 24/7. Besides, my last tour (634s White's was during the snowy months and I have some awesome ideas (keywords boating, sea, camping, archipelago) so a push to july-sept would be ideal.

But yeah anything goes and it's still a way to go and things always change and people drop out and such and such but if possible I would be grateful.
