regarding hemming w/ a taper: i highly recommend sending any pants you want altered to rail car fine goods.

they do great work. as long as you don't want them taken in too much, they will look fine(if the hem is 8.8, probably wouldn't be wise to go below 8")just ask them to start the taper like 10-12 inches above the hem, so it is gradual.

^are you talking about wearing the ihsh-70 and when you say micro-cord are you talking about the 73?

with respect to the ihsh-86, what a cool shirt. i can't think of a shade of blue that immediately catches my eye like this.

it is a testament to works inc. that the products they consistently release and the corresponding prices are one of the things that motivates me to graduate school and get into a career where i earn enough to be able to see a shirt like this released(or a dozen other products i can think of) and purchase it without it being irresponsible. similar to wanting to have the disposable income to travel, buy nice cars/motorcycles, the finer things in life, if you like.

    • RE: 18oz indigo weft/indigo warp - IH-666SII and IH-634SII

is the test run due to a limited amount of fabric right now?

being a small-business owner, exercising caution before investing the considerable capital demanded to initiate a full production run of a new product?

i noticed in a thread about an upcoming denim jacket; in the course of discussing offering multiple variations/styles, various forum members assuring you that selling the product quickly would be no issue. you then explained experiencing sales in the past which fell short of your projections.

if i recall correctly, one of the products was a denim jacket with the rugged, first-class construction Iron Heart takes pride in, an 18oz. unsanforized denim that would provide advantages in terms of evo and "customizing" or molding the jacket to the body, and your intuition/taste on when a product will be a "hit" combined with forum members/consumers reinforcing your opinion that the jacket would, if not become an IH classic a la the 634s, at the minimum justify the investment necessary to finance whatever # of jackets constitutes the minimum Works Inc. requires you to order for production.

i turned this post into something quite different than my original intent for posting. i think the reason had something to do with how badass these jeans will be, especially if done in the 634s cut(guess vulcan would be ok). also, hopefully not "too expensive", as i am your broke college student straight outta central casting, and the 4 items i own from IH/TW are all too rich for my blood, even though i bought them all either second-hand or heavily discounted.

    • RE: Tagged Size vs. Actual Size (Sizing Questions & Advice)

would like to get another pair of iron heart jeans and have fit questions.

i'm currently wearing a pair of 634s, size 32. the waist still measures 32" even though they have 2 months of wear. the fit is very relaxed and comfortable(tts for me is size 31 waist) but there is more room in the top block than i prefer.

its nice having a relaxed fit, as i don't like my jeans tight, but for my next pair am looking for a "slim" fit. btw, a current pair of jeans that gives the fit i'm looking for has: 31" waist, 10.5" rise, 12.1" thigh and 8.9" knee.

i like the 18oz. indigo w/ overdye but no way the 666sod cut would work for me with the small thigh measurements. so unless that denim will be released in a different cut, this leaves the 634sb or maybe the ihxb01xod.

looking at the size chart of the 634sb the size 31 measurements look really good, basically tts. the reason for this post is i read through the thread on those pants and several times people mentioned how they run a little bigger than the 634s. plus, even with a belt, the denim will stretch, so a perfect fit brand new might not be the best thing in the long run. so if i get a size 30, i know the waist will stretch to where i want but my concern is the thigh being too small. if the thighs on a size 30 will stretch to 12+, or better yet a pair has a larger thigh diameter than the chart(11.7") a 30 should be the right size.

the ihxb01xod interests me with the slimmer fit and cool details. but even a size 32, which is sizing up 1, has a similar thigh measurement as the size 30 634sb.

my bad for such a long post. wasn't my intent when i started typing. if anyone has any suggestions i would appreciate it.

also, if a picture of how my size 32 634s would provide more info than everything i just wrote, let me know and i will post one.

what an anticlimactic game 7 after such an even series.

can't wait for thursday night. interested to see how the spurs start the series after such a long layoff.

my favorite development of the playoffs is the combination of the spurs health/level of play ascending as the playoffs progress and the heat actually showing some vulnerability.

just got done watching the heat dismantle the pacers. what a clinic in offensive efficiency and solid D. even with that great performance, i can conceive of the spurs beating the heat in the finals. while i wouldn't put the odds very high in this happening, the odds are much higher than a month ago.

it would be great to see duncan and pop win one more championship to cap off one of the greatest runs in history.

crazy game. paul george combined some incredible play with a few lapses. the pacers just couldn't afford him to make any mistakes down the stretch.

vogel has done a really fine job but he outcoached himself down the stretch.

that memphis/san antonio game the other night was pretty wild, too. it took hollins too long to stop playing TA and prince together. hopefully he adjusts his substitutions/lineups going forward cause memphis has no shot of winning otherwise. even with adjustments, memphis has little room for error. they just don't have enough good players. gasol, z-bo and conley ALL have to play good games, bayless and pondexter have to hit some 3s, darrel arthur has to play good pick-and-roll defense and hit the midrange shots he gets. san antonio can survive an off game from one or even two of their best 3 players.

you are dead on in regards to the league having image problems long before and deeper than the malice at the palace. i often make a point to ask middle-aged white guys i interact with at/through work if they caught the game the other night(not league pass nerd nov-feb matchups between cleveland and boston either; games like bulls snapping heat's streak, 3OT bulls over nets, san antonio vs. golden state game 1, etc.). very rarely do i meet a guy who watched more than the sportscenter highlights.

i fully agree with your take on the reasons behind this. i love the universally accepted response of "i don't like the nba. they get paid too much and the regular season sucks(a lot don't even watch the playoffs). college basketball is better. while the ncaa tournament is very exciting, college basketball's level of play has declined and the game isn't what it once was.

my thoughts are stern are complicated. he has done so much to advance the league, but some of the stories you hear about his tyrannical behavior, bullying and corruption are disheartening. his wit and charisma are very entertaining. very shrewd businessman and a visionary. also, aside from the bullying, i don't mind having the head of a very powerful league have some vince mcmahon in him. sure makes things a lot more entertaining than bud selig.

i agree with you about c webb. i didn't see it happening but i really enjoy the stockton-webber tandem.

    • RE: NBA (Basketball)

my main beef is really with the league office. basically stern for dictating the policies. these refs are just calling the games how they are told to.

ever since the pacers & pistons brawl the league has been terrified of having another fight. so they have overreacted and now there are flagrant fouls and double technicals handed out for almost any "hard" foul that results in a player landing on the floor. what sucks is the refs look at the replay every time a flagrant is called and have the opportunity to downgrade the call upon review yet rarely do. a lot of times it is the way the fouled player lands that results in the flagrant, not the actual foul.

i cannot stand the double technical. it reminds me of how fights are now treated in school. the person who merely defends himself(or sometimes has the misfortune of getting hit) gets in trouble, too.

and the technicals issued for "taunting" drive me crazy. during the course of a heated game if player A dunks on player B and stares too long or talks trash he is getting T'd up. last year stephen jackson hit a big corner 3 and stared at OKC's bench as he got back on D. the same bench that was undoubtedly yelling at him, clapping or stomping the floor to try and distract him. it was in a big moment of the game but of course he got a tech.

what made basketball so great in the 80s and 90s were the rivalries. guys like bird, MJ and gary payton are some of the best players of all time and part of their legend is the trash talking. imagine if reggie miller and spike lee went at it today like they did in the 90s. the nba has no problem running the highlights to get everyone hyped for the playoffs. even though he never won a title, those battles are what reggie is known for to most people. that shit would be cut off instantly today and it sucks.

i love watching games when van gundy is doing color. he calls it like it is. last night you had steve kerr and marv albert exaggerating the physicality of the game, backing up the refs the whole time. i'm not saying the game wasn't chippy, but it would've been nice to hear steve say that some of the fouls weren't even hard, let alone flagrant. barkley wasn't having any of it at halftime, though.

wow golden state is playing well. even with their best player having a subpar game(after a solid first quarter though), they were in control the entire game.

the play of barnes, landry and green in place of david lee has been enormous.

crazy how barnes, green and ezeli are part of the rotation and play key minutes. all 3 are rookies(a 4th rookie kent bazemore hit the reverse layup at the end of 2OT to put golden state up by 1 before ginooooooobilliiiiiiiiiii won redemption).

the spurs shot the 3 poorly, despite getting some solid looks that are a key component of their offense. they also missed plenty of good looks, parker and ginobili have yet to string together an entire half of good ball, much less a game. parker is going to have to start hitting the elbow jumpers.

ginobili can be so frustrating at times. i can only imagine how pop feels. the same freelancing that makes him who he is hurts when he is off.

you know sometimes when you have an irrational distaste for certain players? why does watching gary neal put up ill-advised shots bother me? i like what he brings to the spurs. i get a similar feeling when jerryd bayless is launching contested 20 footers off the bounce. must be something about my view on what a backup "point guard" should contribute.

on a related note, this leads to me thinking how patty mills is looking in practice and how nando de colo finished off his season. i love watching the game from my couch and wondering why the best coach in the nba doesn't give patty mills some of gary neal's minutes to try and provide some scoring spark off the bench. never mind patty mills career highlights have come in regular season games against inferior opponents, often during garbage time. but how irrational i am during the game.

seriously though, i hope boris diaw didn't aggravate his back in game 1. he made some big plays down the stretch of game 1 and without him they don't win that game. does anyone know if he was hurting?

a part of this(maybe all of it) was the return of splitter, who will hopefully regain his form as the series moves on and allow the spurs to go big.

the warriors did a great job of limiting the turnovers in game 2. this and their superior 3-point shooting won the game.

damn, everytime i post way more than intended. and i didn't even get into the officiating in game 1….

that spurs comeback was insane! is anyone else as annoyed as i am with all the praise mark jackson continues to receive? he is friends with kenny & reggie from tnt and worked at espn before coaching the warriors so you don't hear anybody really criticize or even question his coaching decisions on either network. but what a game it was. at this point i wouldn't be surprised if the spurs win in 5 or the series goes 7….

i totally overlooked the bulls because i just didn't see them scoring enough and didn't know how much noah could play and how healthy he was going into the playoffs. they have to be the best story so far although steph curry's emergence as a superstar and the excitement surrounding the warriors is a lot sexier than the relatively boring play of the bulls.

very happy to see memphis take care of business in game 2 and close out the game strongly. gasol and randolph continue to dominate and thoroughly embarrassed kendrick perkins. as for the rest of the series: durant will keep being durant and between jackson/martin/a rejuvenated fisher/sefolosha you can get 40-50 points. this leaves serge ibaka and nick collison responsible to chip in 15-20 combined. collison is a lot more versatile offensively than perkins(as is everyone else on the team, aside from hasheem thabeet) and can do a decent enough job of defending randolph. he didn't contribute much offensively and when he fouled out with 3 minutes left, coach brooks put perk in to finish the game. ouch. as well as memphis has played, if serge ibaka plays better(the organization has invested heavily in him) and nick collison does nick collison things for 25 minutes/game okc can win this series.

as for memphis, was anyone else cringing watching tayshaun prince attempt to post up durant with about 4 minutes to go last night? what a waste of a possession.

tonight's games should be interesting. i think a lot of people expect the heat to respond to the game 1 loss with a blowout win. while this wouldn't surprise me and the bulls could have a let down game like the pacers did last night, content to start the series off with a road split, this team has overachieved so much that a close game wouldn't surprise me(although another bulls win would).

as for the second game, i can't wait for tip-off.

as expected, the grizzlies/clippers and nuggets/warriors series have delivered some of the best first-round games.

the bulls/nets has been a nice surprise, especially considering the bulls' injuries.

i have really enjoyed watching the grizzlies beat the clippers the last 3 games with gasol and randolph dominating the front court, the wing defense of tony allen, quincy pondexter and tayshaun prince and the grizzlies' team defense with DPOY gasol as the anchor. conley has had some strong games but just isn't good enough to take them to the next level.

it is a shame memphis has no outside shooting to space the floor a little and capitalize on the value of the 3-point shot. although their swingmen defend at an elite level, memphis just doesn't have the outside shooting to really challenge for a championship. this is too bad because i really enjoy watching them when gasol and randolph play this well.

      @seanocono:

^Do you live in LA? You are absolutely right on all fronts. I thought this was only obvious because I see them so much, but maybe it is obvious to everyone.

Their complete dependence on CP3 down the stretch will hurt them in the next round. The Thunder will double him and make other guys make plays. This will be very interesting. Clearly, Griffin doesn't want the ball at the end of games because he is scared to shoot free throws. Maybe Big Shot Billups still has some fuel in the late-game tank. I've always been a fan of Crawford. He was the greatest player I've ever seen at the high school level. I hope he is able to play well in the fourth quarter and make the next series a good one.

Having said that, I don't think this series is over. Game 2 has to sting for Memphis, but they are a mentally and physically tough team. If they take care of business at home, LAC is the type of front-running team that can crumble.

i dont live in la; just really enjoy basketball. agree with all your points…crawford is electrifying. that stretch in the second quarter when he went off was so wrong but you can't help but enjoy when the shots go in. basically had jamal doing all the work while everyone else watched just like cp3 at the end of games. that must've been cool seeing him play ball in high school. seattle has produced a lot of exciting, incredibly confident guards.

as for billups, i know he is a respected leader with a championship pedigree and played well in game 1. but with the way conley went off last night i wonder why bledsoe didn't get much run down the stretch. cp3 is a very good defender, but you would think letting him rest a bit on defense while bledsoe focuses all his attention on shutting down conley might help. i know billups is a good 3 point shooter, but with crawford and barnes/butler on the floor you have guys who aren't afraid to shoot if cp3 kicks it out for a wing/corner 3.

i hope you are right about memphis taking care of business back home. this was one of the first round matchups i was most excited for and definitely want to see a good series. it is too bad memphis got rid of speights/ellington to get under the cap(especially considering the rudy gay trade took care of that shortly after). speights isn't a good defender but would provide much needed offense that ed davis and dorell arthur aren't giving them. and they have to be one of the bottom 5 teams in the league for 3-point shooting so ellington would theoretically help. i love marc gasol's game and wish he had more talent around him to take advantage of his smart play.

CP3 is incredible. his greatness almost hurts the clippers in the long run because he pulls off plays like that(and all the plays he made the last 4 minutes) often enough to win games. i think it gives them a false sense of competence in their ability to close out games. the other 4 guys stand around and wait for chris to make a shot.

during a timeout last night, webber basically said no offense to del negro but anybody who knows what's going on with the clippers knows that cp3 and billups are the coaches. can anybody remember the last time a coach of such a successful, popular team was this widely viewed as a figurehead and punchline and lasted so long?

miami will have 4 losses heading into finals
