  • RE: Where does everyone live?

Hi all, guess I'm here for the same reason everyone else is – a delightful personal message from Giles! But yeah, if I'm going to be able to get eyes on the marketplace, I need to put the effort in.

I'm up in Edinburgh, Scotland. Currently pretty dreich up here. Bring on Spring! I'm actually one of those weird people that look forward to January and February, the gradually lightening mornings. I find the -ber months of the year the most depressing – the fag-end of the year… I guess that's why Hogmanay's such a big deal up here ¯_(ツ)_/¯ it's dark AF in Winter!

    Anyway, greetings, everyone.

  • RE: Changes to The Marketplace

Ditto what Turnstyle said; was beginning to second guess my memory of there ever having been a marketplace on the forum…

Good shout on the new rules though. Will definitely prompt more engagement from long-time lurkers/fewer-posters (see what I'm doing here?) 🙂

Brilliant, thanks, Giles, that was all the encouragement I needed, and I see there's three 36s left too, nice one!

In terms of breaking in the 25oz, are we talking mostly full range of mobility but with pinching here and there? Or 'I need a grabber to pick things up off the floor' territory?

TL;DR – Should I go for a 36 waist in the 777-XHS, because that’s what I have (and really enjoy) in the 777S-21?
    —
Hi all, I’ve been hungrily reading up on this cut in this cloth.

After a couple of happy years with a pair of double indigo 666s, this summer I discovered that the 777 is actually ‘my fit’, and the 21oz is precisely what everyone ’round here, and further abroad, assure me it would be, i.e. wonderful (such drapes, so comfort).

However, like many who’ve trod this path before me, I’m still in thrall to the Cult of Heavy, and so am keen to try my hand (and test my legs) with the XHS, not least so I can start a rotation and help my denim last longer.

My question is this: given the differences between the 210z and the XHS, do I need to factor in different considerations when sizing?

I haven’t washed the 21oz yet, and the amount of stretch has mildly surprised me (I’m expecting any normal post-wash shrinkage to stretch back out)(or should I? I guess I’ll discover in due course).

And so in regard to the XHS, what are the ins and outs I should consider? Is it considered to be the standard ‘will shrink a bit, but will stretch back out where under pressure’?

Or is it more along the lines of ‘will shrink, and remain more or less shrunk’d’, so size up?

I’m also going in with my eyes open in regard to the ‘challenge’ of bending 25oz denim to my will – does the slim cut up the ante in this regard?!

I appreciate there’s an above average chance that this topic has been covered elsewhere (and how tedious seeing the same questions appear is), so I’ll be happy with simple answers.

    Cheers!

  • RE: IH-666SII - 18oz Indigo/Indigo Slim Cut Jean

Oh the joys of this time of year…

Hit the deck after encountering some black ice on the way to work last week. It was the keys wot did it (I wear them on my belt loop, tucked into back pocket), but it's still worth it, cycling in my IHs, as they're windproof, look totally rad, and (I like to think) an appropriate counterpoint to the sea of lycra that washes up to surround me at the traffic lights 🙂

On the plus side, it does give me a tangible excuse to start nosing around for my next pair (those 888s look v appealing)…

Any thoughts on whether repairs/darn are necessary? Don't really want a wee hole to grow into a bigger one, if I can help it. Needless to say, the bomb-proof denim is only really punctured in two places [the two obvious, bigger holes you see] and the pocket lining in only one of those).

Either way I like that they've earned their first proper 'smite'!

  • RE: Red Wing Shoes

Thanks, dude, I'll check them out too. Vibram Academy London were very helpful – if I can't find a more accommodating cobbler up here (Scotland), I may well be sending them south/across the North Sea… What a palaver.

  • RE: Red Wing Shoes

Good question – however I neglected to mention, apologies, that I'm a long way from a proper RW shop (I'm in Edinburgh, UK – nearest I believe is in London, and they just point you to the afore-mentioned cobbler somewhere else down in the southern UK, who quoted me ~£100).

But you're right, perhaps I should ask after their other soles, the non-RW ones may well be cheaper…
