It's not much, I'm just going to make a leather knife slip for one of my pocket knives. I recently made some denim micarta with some iron heart 21oz hems and recovered the knife. I put copper hard wear and a red liner as a nod to iron heart. I thought a patch slip would round it out nicely!

@Danimal506 thanks! I'm pretty happy with how it came out. It was my first time making micarta and first recover of a slip joint.

Sounds like a cool project! Would love to see the process of how you went about turning 21oz into micarta and if you get your hands on some patches how you make a slip 😀

I should have taken some pictures during the build but I always forget. All you have to do to make the micarta is buy some clear epoxy, I used Total Boat high performance, and then have 2 flat surfaces to sandwich the material, I used 2 pieced of thick glass I had. Soak each piece of denim in the epoxy then lay it on parchment paper on the glass and use a roller or squeegee to get the excess epoxy out. Once the layer looks wet, apply the next layer, and so on. Once you have all your layers stacked, roll out the excess epoxy and then lay the second flat surface on top with parchment paper and load on a bunch of weights. I put about 100lbs on the top plate. You could also used wood clamps instead of weights. After 24 hours its hard and ready to go.

@Bridger was a great guy to deal with. He shipped the pants overseas and they got to me in one piece. Recommended

Maybe 10 or so in total. I probably only bought a max of 5 over from Japan. They were fearfully expensive.

Giles can't you hook me up with a couple patches?! Help a man trying to finish a project.

Does anyone understand river and hides measurements? I looked at their how we measure page and it looks the same as iron heart other than the length measurement but practically all their measurements are smaller for each size. For instance on a size medium they list shoulder to shoulder at 16.5" which is almost an inch shorter than all the other retailers. Has anyone bought a medium or large from them and can tell me the measurements of theirs?

    came out great.

Thank you! It made some nice micarta. I did 4 layers but could have gotten away with 3. The denim being thick helps out.

  • Leather IH Patches

Does anyone have a couple of leather IH patches they would be willing to let go of? I seen some people remove them from their pants and I'm working on a little project.
