Just picked these vintage Tricker's on eBay. They are in fantastic condition and have hobnailed soles (gonna replace them). I'm pretty sure they're veldtschoens but any info is appreciated. The leather is so thick they feel like steel toes!

I agree. It's hard to find them in the statesunfortunately. As well as Dainite soles. Plus I wanted something utilitarian but not quite as bulky. I LOVE your black grasmeres Seul.

Commando is better, I think. The Dainite has a nice sleek profile and feels a bit lighter and more flexible, but I've found it to be much more slippery. I'll take the chunkier look and better traction of the commando sole any day. Red Dainite looks super cool, though.

I agree Chris. I meant its hard to find cobblers in the states who carry either of them.

Fair enough. I was just offering my unsolicited opinion on the relative merits of the two soles.
I suppose the closest easily available thing to the commando sole in the US would be the Vibram 430. Not quite as nice overall, though.
EDIT: and since I brought it up, here's a visual comparison of the commando and 430 mini-vib soles.
