Many thanks to you, Giles, for the quick answer on those technical questions. You know I'm a stickler for that stuff. 😉

Haraki-Sans method is very soft and gentle and certainly will not damage the jacket or the down. However, I doubt it will get even the typical cuff grease out, let alone any tougher stains.

Brush treatment with a fine detergent for greasy cuffs is almost a must in my experience. Then throw it in the washing machine. I have done so with three down jackets and many duvets, no problem at all. Of course, pick the gentle cycle and if possible use a front loader. The last century top loader technology in the US is a joke and on top of it hard on clothes (and on the environment because it uses more water and requires bleach to even get white laundry white).

        Till

I've been loving the heat retention capabilities in the down jacket over Christmas. Build quality is typical IH, so no complaints there.

However, Giles - perhaps you could pass along to Haraki-san that I felt that the elastic shock cord in the waist hem was a little lightweight compared to the rest of the construction. The cord is a 2mm thickness, I would have preferred to see 3mm (Christ, I sound anal).

Anyway, Happy New Year everyone. My resolution is to make more biltong.

Aah, I love the feeling when after registering to the forum to ask a certain question you found that the answer is there in front of your eyes.

          Khaki or blue… Khaki?

Khaki is a little different, gets away from the eternal blue/black male colourway.

I'm happy to post some more fit pics if you want.

I'm happy with my new jacket! I got the sizing right (I'm 6' and got sz L) too. I'll try and take some fit pics later.

It worked well yesterday in -12C temperature with only t-shirt and light shirt underneath it.

                Howdy,

Just for the record, I did some localised washing of the cuffs and neck of the down jacket the other day (damn my neck can't be that dirty!). I used a wool wash for hand wash detergent at <30 degrees and it came up fine. The loft also came back fine on the funnel neck area. I am confident that a hand wash of the whole jacket would be non-problematic.

                Hope you are all well.

Too bad Kiya doesn't stock XS…or I'd buy both the vest and the jacket ! (They're both marked down insanely).

hectic…you're hilarious ! Not a bad idea actually ! But no thanks...I think I'm pretty set on purchasing that SEXIH07BK Type III jacket in the near future. I'm going to pop into Self Edge next week sometime.

Yeah, I'm certain it won't fit arrow.  Even slightly big for a bargain is not worth it, IMHO. 😞

I dunno…I usually size up when it comes to heavy down or wool jackets to allow for a chunky sweater or a sweatshirt underneath...I always prefer slightly loose than to look like a sausage

You guys really want me to get one ! But me thinks, even accountng for a sweater or hoodie underneath, a 42 " chest is just too big for me. I think they're sized big to begin with.

I usually wear a large and the jacket is 48"???

That's six inches bigger than my actual chest…

^ i'm sorry to say it, but i do think an xl will fit rather off on you. I was tripping out about the xl i ordered because giles had fit pics of him in the xl and he's 6'2 i think! but i have a long torso so that helped me out with length, and the chest fit great. but a 38… man, thats a wayyyy off. 4 inches is a big difference. its like wearing size 30 jeans and getting a 34. it'll fit, but you better have a good belt and some baggy tees. i would advise against it. maybe the down jackets will one day (in the distant/not so distant future) be marked down on here too.  😶 just going to have to wait and see. But save your 150 man, its not worth it to look like you're wearing a sleeping bag. my 0.02
