@Steffen I get the impression that Rolex do their own thing, and don't really concern themselves too much with what the consumers want. Somehow it's working for them. 😉

It's possible that they're using Tudor to test things out, and maybe incorporate them into the core collection. For example, Tudor are very vintage influenced, and a few touches in the Rolex main line (such as the red line of text on the anniversary Sea Dweller) might be a nod to that.

@Steffen @Graeme what you both said is pretty true. Tudor is the testing grounds for Rolex and also a place where they'll introduce something that they feel will not fit into the brand aesthetics of Rolex.

although they do not currently offer a 'rubber bracelet', i don't necessarily mind that face. couple issues with a rubber strap is that it's hard to adjust for wrist size. especially the ones that fit into the OEM clasp. with metal links, i can simple remove them. but with a rubber strap, once i cut them shorter, there's no going back.

now i could simple go out and find a glidelock clasp as with the ceramic Submariners. However, the rubber B strap for the glidelock clasp is different and doest have that green center line that looks great with the GMT hand..

fitting issues aside, i'll live. i actually like the rubber strap for a change.

I've got a bit of a thing for the limited edition Omega Railmaster, but the standard model is growing on me. Hodinkee did A Week On The Wrist review, which helped sell me on it.

I just checked eBay prices for the Seiko SARG011. The Buy It Now price is $740???

I paid $250 for mine new off Amazon…

@louisbosco Have you tried Everest straps? I have a few for different watches and find them to fit well and the quality is solid. Can get a variant that utilizes the Rolex clasp also.

@Manticore no i haven't. i'll have a look. it's only my first rubber strap. problem is with my small wrist, they usually don't fit too well. unlike nato or metal links where i have a greater degree of adjustment.

@louisbosco I think they're worth a shot, especially for smaller diameter wrists. I only have the tang buckle variants since I'm not a fan of using a deployant with a rubber strap since they generally never fit comfortably in my opinion (a habit from when I used to be a divemaster - any watches with rubber dive straps always had a tang buckle).

Well, there I go: I just placed an order for the Grand Seiko SBGH037. I should get it next week…

Interestingly I got a $200 discount from a US AD, and then (after I had placed the order of course) I got an email from another US AD with a $600 discount. They must be eager to get rid of their last units. I understand ADs generally don't give discounts on LE watches generally...

Ever since discussions a couple of weeks ago on this forum concerning watches (Rolex Hulk, Blancpain 50 Fathoms, etc.), I’m getting the itch again.

Are there any places to look for rumours on upcoming releases at Baselworld in a couple of weeks?  I’ve been reading the Rolex forum and scouring the web using google search, but would like to know if I’m missing anything important.

I’ve seen a possible re release of the GMT with the coke bezel (black/red), the Milgauss may be updated, and the Submariner may get an updated movement.

If the watches are updated, do AD’s give any discounts?

Appreciate any info you guys may have.

Give a discount on a watch that has become a limited edition?  That seems unlikely, especially with Rolex.

@Chris Thanks, but I was wondering if Rolex does change the movement in the Submariner, does the old stock/inventory get discounted?

I agree that it doesn’t sound like something Rolex would do, but you can always hope.

@goosehd from what I understand, getting a Submariner right now is difficult. I doubt that there is much stock left to discount.

My guess is that Rolex are going to upgrade several watches to the 32xx series of movements, and that there might be redesigns of a few models. I'd expect the Oysterflex bracelet / strap to turn up on a few more pieces.

                                  The rumours seem to be:

                                  • A Submariner with slimmer lugs.

                                  • An Explorer 2 with a ceramic bezel.

                                  • A GMT in steel with a Coke or Pepsi ceramic bezel, or a rootbeer in two tone.

These seem to recur every year. 😛

Monochrome Watches and Rolex Passion Report have published their predictions, which largely consist of the above.

This is Monochrome's rendering of a potential Submariner. (The watch of the left is the current model, the one on the right is their concept.)

But I prefer their Polar Explorer.

The new Omega Railmaster has arrived Down Under. It's a really nice looking piece. They're about two thirds of the price of the limited edition, but have similar specs, and better water resistance.

Here it is on the bracelet.

The grey dial looks better in photos than in the metal. I think that it's a bit less clear than the black.

The other thing I found was a Bulgari Finissimo Skeleton. This is about 50% more than the solid version, but looks so much better.

I prefer the Finissimo on the bracelet to the strap, which is unusual for me. I don't know if the Skeleton is available in that configuration, though.

Apparently it's a thing. The Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Black Black uses it.

At night it looks like this.

I didn't know it existed either. However, I couldn't see Rolex doing something like this, as they tend to be on the conservative side.
