Limited Edition Nihon tourist T-shirt: “I SURVIVED JAPAN 9.0 AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS LOUSY SHIRT”

          I’ll try to be brief.
We are all getting depressed by the on-going dramas unfolding in Japan since March 11th 2011.
As a small and humble token of appreciation of a People, and respect of a Country I personally owe so much to, here is what we cooked up at work:

We hand stenciled 15 custom numbered T-shirts, with original artwork inspired by not-so-serious“tourist” type 1960’s-70’s graphic T-shirts. The recent events are obviously a non laughing matter, but some ‘lightness’ is the only remedy i have found against the daily flow of bad news and alarming updates…

Mister Freedom will be donating ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of the sale of each shirt to the American Red Cross, who will properly dispatch the funds to help those affected by the recent 9.0 earthquake in Japan and Tsunami throughout the Pacific. The MF donation for the FULL AMOUNT, $100.00/shirt, will be made on the day of your purchase, and official receipts will be available on demand.

Of course we don’t expect you to be wearing the shirts, if you were not there when the 9.0 hit… But if you have a friend in Japan and would like to show that you “did something” by sending him/her this shirt as a present, know that your generosity will be helping some folks in need of food/shelter/support. (Just wait a  bit and let the Post Office deliver more urgent goods for now.)
We will be updating this post with the name or website of the 15 participants.

          SPECS:
100% cotton indigo blue dyed Tubular T-shirts/ Vintage 1950’s-60s NOS military T-shirts/ Hand stenciled with slight variations/ Dual discharge and red waterbase ink printing/ Limited Edition of fifteen numbered shirts/ Packaged in custom made original MF chipboard boxes/ Pre-Washed and fully shrunk.

LIST OF DONORS (we salute you…):

I know he's trying to keep it "light", but I don't find it amusing in any way.  My friend just had to send her mother toilet paper and batteries in Saitama because there is none to be had…
They have survived, but are not well or finding humor in the situation...

sadly i think the very fact they needed to explain the idea means they missed the point

When I first saw this I was a little shocked.  But you know what?  If it means a little more money goes to the relief funds, that's no bad thing.  I asked Katherine to pop one aside for me, they only come in Small so it aint going to get much daylight….

They are getting the $ and that's definitely a good thing, but I'm sure he was capable of cutting a $1500 check without all the fanfare as well…
Not questioning his intentions (or those of anyone purchasing one to help), just taste and comprehension of the situation.  When I've got friends from Japan asking to come stay with me out of fear, and an 80 year old woman who's home I've been a guest at who can't use the bathroom with dignity I find NOTHING to try and make light of.  It's really just too soon for this type of thing.

totally understand your view on this.

My two cents to this are you can do good silent or you can do it loud, the only thing that really matters in the end is that there is some thing to be done.  I don't see the point to judge the choosen way as long as it is not disrespectful against others and humor is not something that I would personal put under the gone to far flag…

bare in mind that Christophe and the MFSC team are having long and sincere relationships / friendships to and with a lot of people in Japan. I spoke to Katherine last night - and they are just as devastated about the situation , if not more than some.

I felt like all I can do from where I am is trying to stay in touch with the people I know over in Japan, pray for them and send every bit of positive energy that I have.

Hope and good thoughts are what really matter right now - and I for one completely support that.
