Lovely cafés, the city is beautiful in general. Especially the area towards the university across the river.

Just a very nice vibe altogether. Modern, hip, cool, laidback city! Recommended 🙂

The Necropolis is lovely during the day, but can be a pretty sketchy place.  Avoid that part of town at night as plenty of junkies and jakeys hang around.

Yeah, the West End of the city is a lot nice for wandering around than the city centre.

As time goes on, I'll try and think of oddball random things and places to add to this thread.

Ah, I can imagine that about the Necropolis, the entire part of town looked a bit worse for wear. The western part of town was just great. Lots of vintage/used clothing stores with great finds (if you want a pair of wingtip brogues… go to Glasgow.. 😉 ).

Any shops in particular you can recommend?

Well, if you go over the "main" bridge to the west end of town (by the subway station) there are 3-4 shops right across the river, when I was there I found 10-15 pairs of brogues, wingtips, engineer boots etc in several of those.

Shopping wise, not really!  W2 is the one place really worth going out of your way to see. (adam kimmel, mhl, cdg homme/shirt/play/pretty much everything!)  There is also more standard options such as Urban Outfitters (apc, carhartt etc), Frasers (acne, j.lindeberg etc) and Cruise (there is 2 stores, one is trashy low end crap and the other is mmm, our legacy, lanvin and the like.)  Oh, there is a branch of COS as well, which I love, inside Princes Square. (alongside some crappy shops.)

For drinks, without knowing what you like… So here is where I usually hang... IVY, Firebird and The 78 are good up Finneston way.  Brel is only good option at byres road/hillhead.  The Belle, The Landsdowne and Captains Rest are good up Kelvinbridge way.  In the city centre it's a total crap shoot, Mono and Stereo are probably the best picks. (Mono has a great record store inside.)  I still like The Tron, Bier Halle or The Lab if more central as a back up option if the other two are roadblock busy.

Tinderbox has the best coffee in town and there is branches in merchant city, city centre and west end.  (city centre is on the top floor of the princess square and my favourite, usually in there at least once a week.)

As for food then you absolutely have to hit Mother India's Cafe or The Wee Curry shop at some point if you like Indian food!

Sights?  Kelvingrove and Gallery of Modern Art are only things that spring to mind, the new Transport Museum is meant to be kind of cool but I've not been down yet.

Anything else more specific then feel free to ask or shoo me a pm/email.

Many thanks - will certainly try one of the India restaurants!
I guess we will be looking for the traces of Macintosh and architecture in general.

Art School area is good for that kind of stuff, and there is probably a ton in Kelvingrove.

Mother India Cafe does not do reservations so you may have to queue if it's a peak time, you can reserve the wee curry shops i think, i'd recomend the one at the very bottom of byres road or the buccleuch street (pronounced boo clew) one as the better of the three.

I totally forgot about Artisan Roast for coffee, but it's kind of wanky even if the coffee is great 🙂
