@Autorotate hahaha thanks for that! getting a street fighter for me would be a similar style bike to the street triple I already have, albeit with a whole lot more power. it'll also be my first modern motorcycle with a whole suite of electronics.
just wondering about longer rides and am also thinking of tourers like the GS and tiger GT1200
-
@louisbosco Panigale
-
@goosehd HAHAHA nowadays, I'd prioritise comfort over that. so the Streetfighter's a good compromise
-
@louisbosco Just before I finally decided on the Thruxton, I was seriously considering a Monster or a Streetfighter. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Thruxton, but there is just something drop dead sexy with the Ducati’s.
-
@goosehd that v4 engine is insane. panigale and SF with the same engine. so does the m1000RR and R.. gonna be good stuff going forward..

@goosehd I've got the exact feeling. on one hand, I'm looking for a tourer like the GS or a tiger. but knowing I can get the Ducati now, just makes me ever so tempted and unable to make a decision.
-
@louisbosco I looked at overall road conditions and where I would ride to make my choice. Because of our winter’s, many of the roads are full of potholes, frost heaved pavement, and poorly patched road work. Every ride I am constantly reading the road conditions as well as watching out for traffic. Those went heavily into my decision on the bike to buy.
My heart wanted and still wants a monster or streetfighter but I knew I would be better off with a Thruxton.
-
@goosehd that's fair. I would love the thruxton down the road as a modern classic too one day. I'm more of the different bikes for different occasion. that said, it's hard given the prices of vehicles in Singapore.
I guess I could always forgo cruise control and comfort every time I head north into Malaysia by making up the speed to get there.
By theory of what I want, the M1000R would be perfect as the only bike. keyless, cruise, heated stuff, power. but there seems to be something lacking..
-
@louisbosco Completely agree on different bikes and if the weather permitted, I would ride a bike every day.
That M1000R is a sexy beast as well…

just not as much of a pussy magnet like the Ducati

I’m finally getting my motorcycle “shit” together. I’ve owned them all. GS1150, GS1200ADV, KTM 1290 Super Duke (the one that got away) Sportsters, FXR, Dyna, Road Glide and some KTM dirt bikes.
I sold my passion project FXR last fall after getting an offer I couldn’t refuse. I made the mistake of making it too nice… didn’t want to ride it. Too scared to mess it up.
Right now I have my 1976 FXR swing arm chopper, a Ducati 1200S and as of yesterday AM, a 2003 Road King.
I love motorcycles and just one won’t do. So cultivating a “stable” or “quiver” has been a project. And I haven’t always nailed it. But hopefully I have now… finally.
I am turning the Road King into a performance bagger. The price was right. The previous ownership was exactly what I was looking for: original owner, 78 years old, fair weather rider, wiped it with diapers, etc. my inspiration is this: TuckerSpeed FLXRT.
The Ducati really does it all… but for those really long trips to New England, or days I don’t feel like the “rowdiness” of the Duc, the RK will be a nice, comfy alternative.
Now I just need to resist viewing the RK as too nice… which is a challenge. You put some much money, sweat and tears into these builds… they become more than a mode of transport. Oh well.
I’ll keep this thread updated as I progress on the King. First thing up is risers, bars and a pipe. As it sits in stock form, it’s super boring, comfy, and sluggish. With a front to back rebuild, hoping to make it a little twitchy, light and fast, but still retain the civilized feel of a bagger.
-
@Autorotate I feel that the Super Duke has a good story…
I’ve got an 08 Dyna FXD that’s been tricked out and I too don’t ride it as much as I should because of it.
The Thruxton RS, Yamaha WR250 and a PW50 for the kid’s, but I secretly love to ride. Every time I get it out for them I have to do a quick test ride to make sure everything is working well…
-
@Autorotate This one?
-
@goosehd thats it. So sic. But I’m gonna keep bags on mine
-
That is a very nice bike….ideas for colour scheme?
I test rode a road king special a few years ago and loved it. Definitely needed performance upgrades, but would have been great for multi day rides.
Please keep us up to date on the build or…start a thread to bring us along for the ride.
I might be as excited as you are

@Autorotate I just realized that is a 03 anniversary model. Cool pickup!
