    @DougNg:

Just FYI, you're going to have massive fade shifting when you finally do wash them

These jeans shrink like crazy, and there will be a lot of let twist

thanks for your informations Doug … I'm aware of the fact that there will be a lot of shrinkage and that's the reason why I'm sized up ... and there's enough space left ...
I'll let you know about the pre-/post-soak measurements when I'm (maybe) finally decide to soak or wash them ...
About the fade shifting or leg twist ... hmm ... let's see ...
it happens when it happens (who is this always saying ;))

and before that ... I just beat the devil out of it !!!

      @jimmy:

van- what cause the round mark on your back pocket? i've seen it in few pics now.

hey jimmy … the round mark on the backpocket is from a box of Burt's Bees Hand Salve

another "trick" for a round mark would be a cap of a milk bottle ...  😉

I am just more confused. So people put random stuff in their pocket to get a round fade? I always thought it was some sort of common gadget that we don't get here

I'm not really fancy about the round fade on the back pocket. Nothing interesting about it.. It looks better without it. But thats just me..

Great pics van, I dig the fact that you didn't wash them and just wore them, wish I could have done that
          with mine.

Regarding the round pocket fade, this usually occurs when people use chewing tobacco and store it in
          smaller containers.

jimmy … don't be confused ...I think this is a general discussion ... what is random stuff in your pockets?
Keys, lighters, wallets, knives etc ... take a look in the pocket dumb thread ... what is necessary and who is making the rules ...
"unfortunately" I'm not chewing tobacco .... but I'm in use of all that "random" stuff I carry in my pockets ...
I need the comb for the beard, the salve for smooth hands (the ladys like that), my keys to get in the house and drive the car, the wallet for carrying some money ... is that ok for you?
some like it, some like it not .... live and let live

no, i got that it was the milk bottle cap that was throwing me off. [milk bottle cap is differently random to have in any pocket] but you confirmed what i was thinking that round fades are made by tobacco tins. our tobacco comes in small plastic bags hence the confusion.

^I can tell you … it was very hard to find a small round metal box that looked like a tobacco box with something that I can use everyday like a hand salve ...
took me a lot of time  🙂

VO do you carry a zippo in the coin pocket? I can't put anything in there - too tough to get it out and anything in there wants to impale me when I sit or squat… front pocket openings on these damn tight.

yes …. I carry a zippo in the coin pocket ... I don't use it very often so it's ok for me
the front pocket openings  are tight but I can handle it ... I guess it is possible because I did no soak
probably after the first soak and shrinkage they will be much tighter

I'd be scared to wash those SR's to be honest… After all that wear and fading, only to have the denim experience significant shrinking and skewing, affecting both the fit of the denim as well as the placement of creases and fades, I myself would be unsatisfied with the outcome. I would not wash or soak those SR's ever if it were me van olzon, but that's just my opinion.

That being said, those look great, and thanks for sharing the evo pics 🙂

Let me get this straight.  I recall G saying that unlike other jeans, you need to soak these before you wear them.  Soaking them will get the shrinkage out and "bed" the thread into the denim properly.  Otherwise, you will put a lot of pressure on the them and are likely to blow them out much quicker.  Massive left leg twist is also expected.  At this point, the only other way to wash them (while keeping the combs and stacks intact) is to wash them cold.  Alternatively, you can get rid of any smell by putting them in the freezer for a little while.  Anyone else have the same experience?

Edit:  I meant hot soaking them before the first wear (Thanks Seul)

It's indeed about the strength of the threads and all that… I'm not sure cold soaking would have the same effect as a hot soak before wearing them, let alone after having worn them for this long... Freezer method is only to get rid of the bacteria/ smell... Won't do anything to the rigidity...

I did 2 initial hot soaks in order to try and get the shrinkage and excess starch out before I wore mine. My pair showed a healthy amount of shrinkage from the denim, and my left leg got some serious leg twist - the selvage side seam is basically facing forwards now (aka 90 degrees).

My suggestion to VO was not to wash or soak his pair now since he did not do the initial soaks/wash. I believe even a cold wash at this point would cause the denim fibers to shrink up and skew considerably (perhaps as much as what would have occurred initially had the pair been soaked/washed from the very start). And so if maintaining original crease positions and fades are important to VO, I believe the best course of action is to avoid water and washes indefinitely. Although dry cleaning may be an option here.

Dry cleaning fluid can be harmful to unsanforized demin, since VO's SR's have been worn for some time now
dry cleaning them will no doubt leave spots on the demin. Dry cleaning works better for sanforized denim,
keeping them dark and new looking. I worked in dry cleaning at one point and have seen some nasty
                                    results…

Actually, cold soaking takes care of about 80% of shrinkage

If I really am concerned about keeping my jeans in a dark raw state, I'll do a cold soak, let air dry, then do another cold soak

Btw, freezing doesn't kill 100% of bacteria. There are plenty of bacteria that just go into a dormant state at the -20 degrees C that your freezer has. Freezing does not sterilize

I know violence is not the answer, I got it wrong on purpose
