        People with 400 odd HP Subaru and Evo`s don't care about such things.

        They are so fast that Police in the UK have adopted their own modded versions because they proved to be so formidable to keep up with in a police chase. ie they were burning off the cops

          Fuel usage and turbo lag are issues we can live with as the car isn't a daily driver [emoji106]
          When I return from the trip up north I'll post  the engine build & ancillaries list . . . . . .

            Heading up north to the Scooby Clinic in Chesterfield where our Subaru currently resides to discuss the engine plus ancillaries build to take our car upto 390BHP. It's gonna be 8-12 week wait however we do get a Subaru Legacy courtesy car which we are now en-route to collect

              @louisbosco A communication from SCOOBYCLINIC (www.scoobyclinic.com) regarding our new (to us) Subaru . . . .

              The list below gives us a engine build capable of withstanding 500 BHP;

              Media blast engine casings
              Skim block faces
              CDB converion
              Re bore and hone cylinders
              Machine conrod clearances
              Forged piston set
              Uprated rods
              Crankshaft
              Big end and main bearings
              Complete gasket & seal kit
              Oil pump & water pump
              Custom head gaskets
              ARP Headstuds
              Full timing belt kit
              3 Bond sealer
              Skim cylinder heads
              Oil filter
              oil
              coolant
              Spark plugs
              Chemical clean of all parts
              Environmental charge
              6 helicoils
              Re furbish cylinder heads

              To achieve circa that (500 BHP) you will need the following;
              SC 46 Billet turbo charger
              Uprated fuel injectors
              Uprated fuel pump
              Perrin FMIC kit
              Labour perrin FMIC kit
              Excedy clutch twin plate
              Perrin inlet pipe
              Perrin induction kit
              Fuel pump wiring mod
              Adjustable FPR
              4 bar map sensor
              3 port EBCS
              oil cooler
              Perrin AOS
              Syvecs fitted and mapped

              However it can run less (380 to 400 BHP) very safely with the following extras;
              SC 38 Billet turbo charger
              Uprated fuel injectors
              Uprated fuel pump
              Excedy “pink box” clutch
              Perrin inlet pipe
              Perrin induction kit
              Fuel pump wiring mod
              Adjustable FPR (recommended but not essential)
              4 bar map sensor
              3 port EBCS
              oil cooler
              Perrin AOS (recommended but not essential)
              Re map

              We arrived at the Scoobyclinic yesterday and committed to the 380-400 BHP build. Now we have an 8-12 week wait as the garage is stacked out with engine builds.

                Can they do any kind of anti lag system?

                My brother built a ~500hp Mitsubishi Evo.  😶

                  Will drop the garage an email about potential turbo lag & anti lag system as we are back home in the South West

                            Don't you need to upgrade the break disks / pads and suspension / shock absorbers and tyres to keep up with the extra power. If they made a 400 BH as standard car they would pay a lot of attention to those areas to handle the power.

                              ^ My car is making 330BHP at present as the person who bought the car new immediately took it to Prodrive, the company behind Colin McRaes Subaru, and had one of their prodrive performance packs fitted. The main issue taking it from 330BHP to 390BHP is the engine block which is good for around 350BHP above which it has a tendency to fail under the increased load. The current setup in the areas you've mentioned is good for 390BHP however it would need upgrading if taking to 500BHP.

                                I had a MY00 Turbo for six years. It was about 18 months old when I got it, so it was a while back. Modified it a bit as it's pretty much impossible not to with Subarus. I loved it. Sold it to a local fella who took it to Switzerland with him when he moved. About a year later I was driving past his Father's house and it was parked outside - I had this ridiculous slug of adrenaline, as if I'd unexpectedly seen and ex-girlfriend who looked sexy as hell.
                                Hilarious, but genuine reaction.

                                I dread to think how much you're spending for another 60bhp @denimhead.

                                  ^ I think I understand the feeling you describe when you saw your old Subaru after not seeing it for a long time. We hadn't seen our Subaru for a couple of weeks when we visited the garage where the works been done and that's after owning the car for only a few months. We both really miss our car and it's going to be a long wait until we get it back.

                                  We decided to do a step by step BHP  upgrade and the first step is to build the engine so it's capable of handling the final stage power. So the 60 BHP increase is a step along that journey. Strengthening the engine is where the main expense is [emoji21]

                                    Step by step was always my approach. I'd rarely upgrade a number of components at a time where possible as I wanted to feel the difference (or not) each made individually and go from there.

                                    The best money I ever spent was when I took the car to Powerstation, right next door to Litchfield Imports. They sorted its alignment and performed their 'bump steer' modification - basically putting shims in the steering rack to prevent the front wheels toeing under suspension compression and therefore reducing/eliminating understeer. The car pretty much went in without a single wheel pointing in the right direction, which obviously amplified the effect, but it was by far the best £130 (iirc) I've ever spent.
                                    Eibach springs, updated droplinks and a stiffer rear anti-roll bar were added later piece by piece, but nothing else had that night and day difference.

                                    I've an E92 M3 now. It's got the utterly incredible 414bhp V8 in it and is a far superior car, but I don't think I love it any more than the old Scoob.

                                        Agreed. A set is one of the only things the M3 might ‘need’ in the future, but that would only be to drop it a couple of cm at the front. Doubt it’ll happen.

Given the money I tend to dump into them, I'd have been better off buying the hotter version from the jump complete with heavier duty brakes, cooling systems, suspension, etc.  Right now, I'm regretting not buying an M2 or M4.  I love my car but even with the upgrades (should be pushing ~380 whp or so) it just still leaves me wanting more.
