A pair of Rev'it Rockefeller jeans in the post today. They're made of a 12.5 oz Cordura denim, fully lined for abrasion resistance, and fitted with their SEESMART armour.

The armour is fantastic. It's about half the thickness of D3O, but offers a similar level of impact resistance. I only noticed it was there when it had slipped out of position in transit.

The jeans themselves have a loose, tapered cut, and look like a generic pair of Dad jeans. They're similar to my 1955s, but with a lower rise, I'd guess the 888 is probably pretty close. Mine are a tagged 32" waist, with a 36" inseam, and maybe an inch or two so in the waist. I'd guess the inseam is a touch optimistic, as they seem spot-on for me, and I normally look for 34" to 35".

The Cordura denim looks and feels like a typical pair of washed jeans. The full lining makes them heavier, but grants full CE Level 1 protection, which is better than a lot of sets of textiles. I suspect that they might be warm in the summer, though.

At the weekend, I also tried on a pair of the Saint Model 1 jeans. These have similar protective qualities to the Rockefeller, but are made from a Dyneema weave, so there isn't a separate layer inside, so they're much lighter in weight.

The downside is that they use D3O, which is bulkier than Rev'it's proprietary SEESMART, and being a tighter cut, it's much more noticeable. Plus I'd have liked another inch in the inseam.

Incidentally, I paired the jeans with a Rev'it Fargo jacket. It's made from a combination of goatskin and Cordura denim. Here's a photo of me trying one on (in a size too big) in Amsterdam a few weeks back.

I was tempted by the Vaughn, and still suffering a little buyer's remorse for not getting one. However, it's got an non removable thermal liner, which would cook me in the Antipodean summer. Here's a photo of one (also a size too big) from Amsterdam.

Riding reports to follow, and I've got to catch up with @MP to show him my haul.

Kawasaki have just unveiled the Z900RS, which is another retro bike, at the Tokyo Motor Show. A café racer variant is expected, and will possibly be announced at EICMA in a fortnight.

MCN and Visordown have more details, but it's roughly inline with the R nineT or Triumph Thruxton.

There have been rumours of a supercharged version too. That sounds fun… 😉

The seat reminds me of my first bike, a Kawa 550 Zephyr…

Honda will be announcing a retro-ish bike at EICMA, the NSC (Neo Sports Café).

This is a screen grab of the bike in the teaser.

Autoblog have pictures of the concept bike, which will be far cooler than the real thing, but gives an idea of what it'll be like.

Dainese have just announced the Settantadue collection, which is basically old school designs with modern protection. It's not dissimilar to what Rev'it are doing with their Urban range, and I figured that @louisbosco would be interested.

MCN have an article introducing the products.

I quite like the two-tone Toga 72 jacket.

@Graeme i like how you read my mind there. i was just looking at a couple of Dainese jackets the other week. about their leather ones and how they compare. was looking at a couple plain ones with just the demon and comparing specs..

                Glad to help @louisbosco.

I think that leather jackets from a particular brand tend to be pretty equivalent, the more expensive ones add bells and whistles, rather than protection. Beyond that it's a case of what fits.

yeah i've seen the review videos by revzilla. i like the ones with the proper shoulder armour rather than just the propolyne ones (i think that's how you spell it) also prefer a thermal liner for winter and 2 outside and 1 inner pocket. can't remember what other specs i do prefer..

After being hit by some gravel today on the bike I gave in and picked up an adv jacket. Not that the IH HH jacket can’t handle abuse, but being pelted by rocks made me instinctually think of the jacket first rather than my safety.

Its getting colder here, but I’m not ready to be done for the year. I really didn’t think I’d like the Klim Badlands as much as I do. It is practically bulletproof and the fit was spot on. I plan on camping with the mc more often next year which took some the sting out of the price tag.

After trying the Rev’it, Dainese and a few others I couldn’t get past how much nicer Klim was. Enough justification, time to use and abuse it. The color is an olive drab, but sure looks brown in the pics.

I've seen the Klim gear before, and it looks good. The only thing is that their cut tends to be quite boxy, and never quite works out for me.

I think that Rukka are on a par with Klim in terms of quality. I quite like what Rev'it are doing too.

I really wanted to like the Rev’it @Graeme, but the fit wasn’t right. I probably sized down from how Klim is normally worn, but it was quite comfortable. It’s funny that the main complaint is weight. I guess wearing heavy clothes all the time has me used to the substantial. I like what I’ve seen from Rukka, but I’ve never seen it in person.

That Klim jacket is a really good fit on you @summ3rhays. I can see why you went for it, and the brand has universally good press.

I don't have a problem with heavy motorcycle gear. It's generally tougher, and that's what you want in an unscheduled dismount. 🙂

Ducati have upped the capacity of the Multistrada to 1260 cc, inline with the Diavel. This is the new Pikes Peak variant.

There's also the Scrambler 1100, which has got a 1100 cc engine, a useful bump from the 800 cc of the original.

MCN have a piece about the Moto Morini Corsaro Ti22, which is being displayed at EICMA.

It's a one-off special based around the Corsaro, but with retro styling cues, and a load of carbon and titanium parts.

                                  Want!

I'm looking forward to Honda (the NSC), Husqvarna (the Vitpilen), and Kawasaki (H2 GT).
