A few more from last weekend. It was stupid to venture out during a snowstorm. What I thought was going to be 10 miles of snowstorm turned into 90 mins. Definitely a learning experience. Thank god for heated grips.

@Graeme Amazing! Thanks for doing that. My bike is getting fixed this week so hopefully by next week i'll roadworthy again and able to go up to Alton. Great to see someone tall on the bike though! I like my legs are short for my height so with a longer torso and long arms i might be ok. I'm always of the mind that no matter the bike i'll want to do long journeys on it… How long do you think you could stand to ride in that position for? and comfort-wise how does it compare to the Thruxton?

@Sam I'm not used to riding with low bars, so I can't comment on whether they'd prove painful.

I've found the Thruxton a touch cramped in its stock state.. My longest ride so far has been about 100 to 150 miles, and I didn't ache after that. I'm wanting to fit the low bar kit, which drops them a couple of inches, but also pushes them forward a similar amount. That makes the seating position feel a bit more spacious, at the expense of more weight on the wrists.

The Racer feels a bit longer. I think that it feels a better fit than the Thruxton, but I've not ridden it yet. The best thing would be for you to take a ride on one. Get that bike back on the road!

The riding position reminds me of the Ducati Sport Classic that @summ3rhays had. Contemporary reviews described that as being akin to a medieval torture device, though when I sat on one years ago I thought that it was reasonably comfortable! 🙂

            ...

My GoPro was on the fritz.  I'd like to get some video as well.

Yeah, I loved the Sport Classic, but torture was right.  It was more low speeds than distance.  If you kept above 75 mph the wind kind of held you up.  City driving or low speeds was brutal.  I'm still not sure how I put 20k miles on that bike.

Love my new Shark Vision R helmet, it ticks all the boxes, it's light, has a good field of view and has a nifty internal sun visor which eliminates the need for either sunglasses or spunking 60 quid on a tinted visor which is going to get scratched over time. I wasnt sure about the chin strap system but it's so much easier and quicker to operate than a traditional D ring. It also has a de mist setting which opens and locks the visor a couple of mm.
              Looks good too.

Looks great and well built. I've got a Bell Bullet and it looks great but it's loud at high speeds and the visor rattles like mad if the bolts start to come loose.

Would that visor work with someone who already wears glasses?

It's probably the quietest helmet I've owned, just tried it on with glasses and they fit comfortably under the visor. There are also cut outs in the foam interior for glasses making it more comfortable.
Best helmet I've owned and I've had quite a few over the years.

thanks graeme. i've gotten the dark smoke visor as well to swtich every now and then. i've been playing around with the drift 4k, will try to upload some stuff soon.

honestly, there's something about kawasaki 1L bikes that i don't have the feel for. besides the s1k, the other one i'm really into at the moment is the r1. bmw just gave me a call about getting the g310 in, i might pop in and take a look and see how it is..

Anyone ever owned one of these who can give me some input?

not sure if i prefer this version either.

I heard that there were a lot of problems with the K1200, and the K1300 range are (or were) more reliable.

The K1300R is a cool bike. I had a test ride on one some years back, and I remember it being very smooth and easy to ride. I was in central London, so limited to 30 or 40 mph, but they are apparently hugely fast.

                                    Plus there's a matt black version. 😃

My brother's visited them a few times, and he says that they offer Guzzis with mild custom tweaks, and a new paint job, for not a lot more than a standard bike.

I really like that Moto Guzzi bobster. I know bobsters are supposed to be done in garage, not from factories….like Triumph did, but both look so good!

@Sam I think that there are mechanical issues. The K1200 engine was heavily revamped by Ricardo for the K1300 series, and solved a lot of the problems.

Kevin Ash (RIP) wrote a couple of reviews when the bike was released: one at [http://www.ashonbikes.com/bmwk1300s]Ash on Bikes, and another at The Telegraph. They both state that the K1300 is a lot better than the K1200.

If you're looking at a big naked, other things to consider would be a Yamaha MT-01 and Suzuki B-King. The Honda VFR1200 was (and still is) a competitor to the K1300S.

This is the Yamaha MT-01, which is a big V-twin in a naked bike chassis. There was a tweaked version, the SP, with Ohlins forks, but that's incredibly rare.

A fairing kit was also available.
