Not as nice a pair of Red Wings, but a lot cheaper and they seem to have a very positive following on Styleforum.
Should be with me in about two weeks.

Hey Lando, are the Red Wings suede? Looking for some good winter boots to go with the snow and general wetty coldness here in the Alps and not sure that suede would cut it. Just got a pair of Fracap Scarponcino (beautiful handmade Italien walking boots) but these look way more hardcore!
Could be an expensive month as I prepare to venture forth into the dangerous world of Iron Heart (would have loved a Melton but seems like they've all gone until next year, may go with a heavy flannel). Wish me luck! -
damn i wish i got a pair of those roys. between those and the aldens i copped off you previously i think my boot steez would be officially down.
by the way, why did you ever sell the little tanks? not your style? not your size?

bertoni, the RW's are suede and I prob wont war them out in the rain/ snow.

Thanks for that Lando. Yeah I don't need another pair of suede boots….love em but don't get to wear them over here much in winter. Any experience with the Red Wing 875? Or any other chunky monkey boots?
Tons of experience. Not good for Winter/ Snow and Ice unless you get a pair with Vibram soles!

I own those in that same color, pics in the WAYWT thread. They are definitely warm enough for winter. The fleece lining is warm and the fall weather requires me to wear lightweight running socks.
As far as hills in the snow, I will be finding out this winter. I live in the most notoriously hilly areas of philadelphia, and I live on top of the hill. The soles look like they might be a bit slippery to me, but we will see.

Like the look of those…don't need any more hiking boots though...got myself 2 pairs of Fracaps (well worth looking at by the way...hand made italien beauties).
I'm thinking of a pair of Red Wings but can't figure out the difference between the 875, 8131 and the 8173? Like the look of the 877 too.
Can anyone help me out here...experience of any of these boots?

Thanks in advanceAll of them have different leathers, 875 is Oro-iginal, 8131 is oro Russet Portage and 8173 is Abilene Roughout. Otherwise I think they're the same, last-wise etc. 877 is Oro-iginal as well.
I have the 875s and I love them, to me it's the "classic" Red Wing model. I do have a soft spot for the Abilene roughout….

I have a pair of these and I really like them. They're very comfortable and great for actually doing work in them without having to worry about wrecking them. They take a nice patina over time
I have two pairs of RW GT's and I have pretty bad gouges in both.

That's great to know - it's always a bit of a risk buying boots like this online from another country, but they seem to have a good reputation. I used to sell outdoor equipment and walking boots etc. and hate not being able to try them on before buying. They're winging their way to me as I type, I should have them in a week or so.
Can I ask what wax/polish/dressing you put on them, if any?

if i may offer me opinion, i have the epaulet workboot that lando was suggesting and it is top quality. if you are looking for a nice and durable boot id say go with it. the only problem i have with it is traction.
