For those of you who may not be familiar with the Feather Artist style straights I have attached a couple of photos of the DX razor.

Feather make specific blades which fit into the razor head, blades are usual Feather quality and extremely sharp.  Feather also make a safety blade to use with this system, the safety blade has some fine wire loops moulded around the blade acting as a minor barrier to give some stand off between your skin and the blade edge.  I would use these first while you get your technique down.

The pictures are of a non-folding Japanese style Feather Straight.  Feather also make folding versions of all their Artist series Razors.  The blade picture is of the safety style blade with the wire cage around the blade.

If you are thinking of trying this system out then I would recommend the newer SS style razor, it offers a much easier shave than the DX or RG versions.

I find myself having these justification conversations with my wife with regard to a great many things, including my IH purchases.

She is used to this now and expects nothing other from me.  Fortunately we have a good laugh about it.

She does appreciate a clean shave and can turn a blind eye to the cost of the tools, so all is good!

Yeah Mrs Snowy's reached the point of accepting a few lovely pieces coming in from time to time. She enjoys them in her own way, and hey, as you've said the benefit in this case is a smooth face.

Very wonderful thank you seawolf. Still no cuts and by far the closest, least painful shave ever. Less itchy/re-pimply the day after. Worth every cent, and look forward to shaving each second or so day :). Appreciate the follow up.

That's very sexy d666. In a manly way, of course.

Edit: And whilst in the thread DE shaving, oh my god every shave a joy of movement. Still super enjoying, no horror stories or crazy nicks/cuts as yet…

As long as you pay attention, you won't cut yourself. My attention was divided once and I sliced my chin a little. They are called SAFETY razors after all 🙂

Yeah I get #dickmove of the day. Had an interview today. Amazing shave beforehand with Jack Black (1st usage). Really feeling it. Amazing. Not only did I lose track of time, but I managed to get a nice slice down the left side of my face. Awesome. Still did well in the interview and am invited back for round 2 tomorrow. Might scale back from Feather for a little.

Fucking loving the entire setup tho. Thank you all!

Awesome! So glad to hear it. Just out of curiosity, do you have a styptic pencil for minor cuts and slices?

Not yet, but will likely/need to get one.

Second round today and I nicked myself again within .25" of the initial nick. I've been called in for round #3! tomorrow. If I nick myself again I'm going to be well pissed.

Up until now I've never cut myself shaving, well as far back as I can remember. I was willing to try it out and wear a few cuts to see if it was going to be used or not. Turns out it appears it's going to get some usage.

Still on the Feather's don't wish to waste the blade. Fingers crossed for a clean-non-nicked-shave tomorrow 😉

Sometimes the blades need a "break-in" period. Feathers are so sharp that you might find your 3rd or fourth shave with them may be the best. Have you tried Astra platinum blades yet? They are my personal favorite. My skin couldn't deal with Feather blades.

                                        Good luck with your interview!

When I shave and am not using a straight edge I use feathers. I love them but, seawolf is correct shaved 4-12 will be your best the blades are very aggressive and need to be broken in.
