      @Sugar:

How did you 20k go llvlaglne?

I am five or six runs into my comeback. I would dearly love to run a few races again but more importantly, I would love not to feel any discomfort in my IT band. 4.5 miles is about my limit right now. I used to regularly bang in 18-22 miles so there's a long way to go…

A great exercise to overcome IT band issues is strengthening your thigh abductors like this: http://www.shapefit.com/quadriceps-exercises-thigh-abductors.html

^ Yes, did a bit of that kind of thing in my recovery. Went out running for the first time in a few weeks last night. Gotta stay committed over the festive period! People look at you like you're crazy when you tell them, but a Christmas day morning run is brilliant. So peaceful on the roads and it builds a good appetite for later in the day, heh.

Over the winter in Toronto you really only see runners out in the early morning. They're the committed ones who run the full year (outside). By 10am, no runners anywhere.

This arrived yesterday. Probably the brightest thing I've ever seen, after the sun

I want to funnel them all into CAMH. Running in the dark when its -15 is insanity. I'm cold now just thinkin' about it. Be safe out there!

The only 'running' I do is sprint exercises with a prowler device.

If this winter is like last winter, it's just fine for running. I only had to add a scarf twice, otherwise running tights, shirt, hoody, running shell and thin toque. I just throw socks on my hands instead of gloves.

And yeah, safety is important. Following the rules of the road has still almost got me run over a couple of times, so adding this new jacket should help a lot.

jacket is looks great. lately i've been just running in just my tights, a running long sleeve,  folded up buff and an EMS stasher jacket. i modified my shorts in the rear…. right above the gel pockets i put a tiny hole in the rear waistband to place a S clip. i attach my handheld there for when i gotta get on all fours for some flat iron action.

I've got 18 km scheduled for tomorrow and a fast 6 km scheduled for Tuesday. Since I'm sick right now I don't feel like eating too much of anything.

I'm doing a 5k tomorrow, but then traveling Christmas eve.  Doubt I'll run again until 2013.

on Christmas eve. i ended up doing some exploring in bear mountain area of NY. hit 3 different summits. it became a little dangerous towards the end. didn't plan to get caught in the dark. next time i'll stick my headlamp on my shorts.

                        anyone on strava?

Bear Mountain - is that the name or are you saying there are bears on the mountain?

Strava? Nope. Nike Plus. Can't remember my username, but my email address is lorriezwer@gmail.com

Training has gone well this week. I've got runs tomorrow, Saturday and then a 21.1 practice half on Sunday, before I start tapering. Running the half in Bermuda on Jan. 20 and I think I might just break 1.55.

lol that's the name of the mountain. ran up bear mountain than to west mountain than to dunderberg mountain last. it's all within bear mountain national park located in NY.

good luck on your half man. i know you'll be able to break 1.55 bro. any future plans for a marathon or longer?

That's 3 mountains too many for me!

I don't think I'm going to do another full any time soon. I had a bad experience with my first and while I know that shouldn't put me off, I really do like the half. I might do one next October, but for now it's Halfs.

Yeah, it's brisk. Went for a run this morning and it was -10 with the wind - that's 14 degrees Fahrenheit. We're on the lake so it keeps us warmer than the rest of central Canada.

Cool to see runners on this board.  I mostly run trails here in UT, but I try to travel for a destination marathon every few years.  20* F is my limit.  That's hardcore to run at -10.  That's cross training weather.

Hardcore? I'm not hardcore. I subscribe to the British theory: there's no bad weather, just bad gear. Can't let a bit of cold/storm/earthquake/tsunami slow you down. Strength is training when your opponents have given up.
