Not true, Simon. You got some Lando certified kicks, no? Next step would be some good leather shoes, a favorite jacket (cotton, nylon, leather anything goes) and maybe a nice watch. Stuff doesn't need to be expensive. You could look into J. Crew for the jacket, Timberland, Redwing and Wolverine for the shoes. Check out the belts I listed, too.
You could get a funky Casio G-Shock as a watch or even a nice classic Swatch, all under $100. If you wanted to spend a little more you could go to Seiyajapan and get a G-Shock with screwback or a nice Seiko monster.
Or go to Westcoasttime:
http://www.westcoastime.com/m16typidivbe.htmlWe got the above for my GF's father two years ago. The expensive Swiss gold watch is in the drawer ever since and only used to go out to bigger events.
This one is also pretty nice:

http://www.westcoastime.com/zennoswatthe.htmlOf course, you could go with a used Omega, Rolex or IWC but even used we are talking $1000+.
The thing is that if each item in itself is a nice item, it is hard to create a non-nice look from that.

Yes. And you can customize the bracelet very easily. The markers have Tritium vials and glow like crazy in the dark. The bezel can be used for a very simple 12H second time zone. The movement is a Swiss ETA automatic. It runs quite nicely.
That gives me an idea! How about an IH 21oz denim bracelet in blue and black in the style of these Nato bracelets. That would be awesome. NB: The Nato style bracelet are simple straps. They are looped through the spring bars and continue under the body of the watch. The one in this pic is not a real Nato bracelet. Here you can see what I'm talking about:
http://www.westcoastime.com/gshocadcasfo.htmlHaving that kind of bracelet in denim would be no problem to manufacture and the denim scraps that otherwise go to waste could be nicely re-used (and generate a profit) in this way. The wabi sabi on a watch strap would be awesome to behold. For the metal parts, use the same color metal as in the IH hardware. For branding use a small IH branded piece of tan leather at the tip of the strap.

I didn't know it was in right now. Has been around for a long time. Got my first Nato bracelet with Timex military watch, handwound, resin case at age 12. Lost it. Darn it. Hard to find now. I just think it would be rather easy to make a strap like that in an IH design. No other Japanese brand has that, afaik.
