Near field communication. So like you can set your phone on another NFC device to transfer data. The most immediate application of this is using your phone to pay for things by swiping it at the register.

It's scarier than that. Apple could potentially become a HUGE credit card processor if they release an NFC iPhone and allow payment through your iTunes account, which has an extremely large collection of users who use credit cards. They'd probably gouge merchants but they'd still use it.

Supposedly there's going to be basically immediate availability. I'm guessing Friday the 9th. Not sure that leaves enough time for preorders.

And rumor is there's no home button. Not sure how I feel about this…
